Walking into an ambush on the battle field

Myrna: Can you share your story of walking into an ambush as a Navy Seal and the, overcome mindset, you had to survive being shot several times.

Jason: I'm super blessed individual. I just could not survive that ambush that night without some kind of a miracle. We'll talk about the, overcome mindset, and how that translates to other aspects of life later in the interview. It was an intense night, it was a night at the very end of our deployment as, Navy SEALs. One of our jobs is something we call direct action. We go after the mid-level and high level leaders across the battlefield.

That was one of our jobs, when I was in Iraq and we were tracking both outside in and through leadership across with my troops were focused on the weapon western province of Iraq. So, a lot of people are familiar with Iraq, a very dangerous place. We were actually based out of Volusia and tracking leaders.  On September 13, 2007, we went after the number one leader for the outside organization in the Anbar Province, the western province of Iraq. A pretty dangerous guy.

We've been tracking all deployment.  He had been responsible for and ran multiple sniper cells, IV shells, attack cells. He had shot down a Marine Corps helicopter in the fall of 2006. Killing the whole crew on board and they lost five individual and run out of the building across the street.

So, on this night we got orders that he was at this place. We got there and even though there was no one there we noticed some suspicious activity in the building a few yards away. My team leader said hey, I want you to take your team, you know, walk these individuals down let's find out who they are in question. And make a long story short, our enemy leader had been in the first house that we were in right now.

He had moved to the house that was about 150 yards away that we were now moving on and his security detail and shut off a very, very well staged enemy ambush we estimate about 15 shooters with two large machine guns and my team and I walked right into this ambush.

My overcome mindset helped me survive

My medic, a fellow Navy seal, took a round of bullets right below the knee which almost took his leg off. One of our other guys ran forward to grab him and tried to move him back behind us. There was kind of a bar, there was one tree and a large like John Deere tractor tire and they pull and drag our medic and himself back.

He himself was shot three times while doing this. I was out front and I was trying to shoot and lay down fire. It was at this point I had both machine guns turned on me and I was hit eight times between my body armor and my body I took two rounds in the left elbow which in the moment I thought it shot my arm off.

I took rounds off my weapon and my right-side plates. I turned around to see what was happening with my team and that's when I caught around in the face. That hit me right in front of the ear. Travel through my face took off my nose, blew out my right cheekbones, vaporized my oval floor, broke all the bones in my face and knocked me out. I was pinned down in front of my guys. They continue to fight the enemy. There's this very intense gunfight occurring with me pinned down on the ground and had literally bullets traveling around me.

I came to probably we don't know the timeline. We know the entire gunfight lasted about 40 minutes. So, when I woke up after about 10 mins, I realized that was in a really bad situation. I called out to my team leader and he realized Holy smokes, you know, Red still alive, and they started to extract me. I owe my life to my teammates. I owe my life to an Air Force aircraft called an AC 130 gunship that brought in the closest fire mission.  Meaning they brought rounds in from the aircraft to the ground at military speeds. My team leader did an amazing job coordinating this in between fire and ran forward and got me and hold me back to where they were about a tourniquet on my mangled arms really saved my life.

But the whole time this was happening. There were several things and we'll come full circle now to a little bit of the, overcome mindset. I knew I had lost a lot of blood. I'd lost a lot of blood between my arm and my face and my injuries. And we go through a lot of, trauma medicine, and special operations training. We're probably trained up to the level of a patient, emergency medical technician that would ride around an ambulance. I knew all the signs. I knew that I was going to what we call, hypovolemic shock, from blood loss. I was struggling to breathe.

In our last moments we think only of our loved ones

And in final moments, I was still pinned down and I started to think that I may die here, I was dying. I was I was literally bleeding out and dying. And there were several things that went through my mind when I was lying there dying but not once did I think about stuff. You know in this life we're all focused on stuff and trust me I like stuff. You know, I love my house. I love you know some of the nice things we have. But I also recognize every day that all that stuff can be gone in an instant. The people you love are all you're going to care about in the final moments in your life, because that's all I thought about.

I thought about my wife and kids and how I would do anything to have another moment just to say I love you. And it was at that point that I also I called out to God. I really need help. I need strength. And that enabled me to have some strength which I can't explain. But I will tell you this, this thought popped into my head in that moment and the thought was this. Stay awake to stay alive.

And if you've ever been severely injured, or something bad has happened you reach a point where physiologically your body wants to shut down and you will become extremely fatigued. And that's what happened. I wanted to go to sleep. I wanted to just let go and go to sleep, but I know I had to stay awake to stay alive and I knew that if I made it to the military hospital, I would live.

The military emergency room. I knew the statistics, from operating overseas that if our if we got our soldiers or wounded warriors to the hospital and they still had a pulse, they had a 90% chance of making it home alive. So that was my focus. You know, stay awake, stay alive, stay awake, stay alive and this stuff there's so many nuances and stories but the bottom line is that's exactly what happened. My teammates managed to get me on the medivac helicopter metabolic and I survived.  My team leader helped me off and I walked 75 yards and got on the helicopter under my own power.

That is the, overcome mindset, and it is this mindset that says I'm not going to give in, I'm going to push until I succeed. I survived this vicious enemy ambush, but everybody gets ambushed in the life. It may not be the bullets and bombs in battle, but it is the bullets and bombs of life. And when you're on the X and the X is what we talked about, point of attack, point in crisis, the point of the incident. We all feel as overwhelmed as if you are on a battle field with bullets flying all around you. You think you're going to die because your marriage ended or your child died. And it is in those moments where we have the ability to drive forward and push ourselves a little further and get off that X, point of attack.

Major life Ambushes

Myrna: Wow, what a story. I had to fight back tears when you talked about lying on the ground thinking you were dying and wanting one more moment with your wife and kids. Thank you for your service to the United States of America, Jason. I heard you talk about, life ambushes, and the fact that we all have about 5 and I immediately started counting mine!  So, I want to talk about why you think first of all that we get five ambushes in life.

Jason: So the five ambushes came about from interviewing people and just kind of an informal poll.  In order to understand what is a, life ambush, we have to break them down.

There are 3 types of, life ambushes.

There are,

  • micro ambushes,
  • mini ambushes,
  • major life ambushes.

I talked about the average of five those are the, major life ambushes, and the majors are devastated. They will forever leave scars forever.  I'll come back and we'll come back full circle for the, major life ambushes.

The interesting thing, about the X, the point of attack, the point of an incident, the point of the crisis, it's the point of any adversity, everybody in life, finds himself on the X at some point in life. Everyone walks on this X at some point. In battle, we were taught you have to get off the X, point of attack  as quickly as possible because the longer you sit on the X, the harder it is to move forward.

And this is true in any aspect of your life.  If it's a, mental ambush, and you're stuck on the action in your mind, and we all get stuck there and these are these, micro ambushes, they come every day. It's that little voice in your head that says you're not good enough. You're not strong enough. You're the wrong race, creed, color, gender, demographic, etc.

So those are my core ambushes and they come all the time. The formula is the same for all of these, you have to get off the X as quickly as possible. So, my motto I overcome and drive forward and get off that X.

The second level of Ambush is what I call a, mini ambush. And these are I find this fascinating because I meet people all the time who will they'll use the phrase, oh, I had a bad day. And I'm fascinated with this because I'll always say what's the tell me about your bad day and 90% of the time when people use it. They did not really have a bad day. So, I've tried to erase this phrase from my vocabulary. I actually have an entire line of clothing called “No Bad days”

Myrna: What are the, major life ambushes?

What are major life ambushes

Jason: Sometimes many ambushes, we did it for ourselves. And now we have to navigate through the journey of figuring out how to drive forward.

  • It could be life threatening ailments or injury to you or someone you loved.
  • Sexual trauma to you or someone you love.
  • Maybe the loss of a loved one including the highest one, the loss of a child.

Most people we polled have about five of these, major life ambushes, in their lifetime. I've seen people with more. I know people that have had 10. I myself, I'm getting ready to turn 48, I've had four, major life ambushes. I'd love to get through life with no more.

Myrna: When I heard you speaking, I started counting my, major life ambushes.

Jason: But the here is the fact, the, major life ambushes, are devastating. And I tell people they will they will be permanent scars. They will leave permanent physical, mental, or emotional or the financial scars. And when we look back on those, major life ambushes, they will always hurt. The, minor life ambushes, and the, micro life ambushes, they're in your head, they are schedule disruptions, a couple years later, you'll barely remember them.

But here's the amazing thing about, major life ambushes. I talked about this in the TED Talk.  The, major life ambushes, frequently are the end of something that occurred in your life. It may be the end of a relationship, it may be the end of the job, or maybe the end of your health, your innocence.  Whatever it is, oftentimes what the amazing thing is and once you develop the, overcome mindset, you’re going to figure out how to drive forward and when we figured out how to drive forward no matter how painful it is, the ones that I've been through, so often it becomes a new beginning.

Every major life ambush builds an overcome mindset

And when you get to the other side of that journey when you climb through the pain and the misery and storms and the darkness, I can tell you probably 95% of the people, get to the other side saying you know it really was hard. I do not ever want to go to the gym, but it's one of the best things that ever happened to me because I grew and got better and, major life ambushes, build us up. Every, major life ambush, no matter how painful they are, they help build an, overcome mindset. You cannot just flip a switch and suddenly have an, overcome mindset.

So when these bad things happen. I don't want to tell you to celebrate that they happen. I know that that's probably a stretch, but instead just lean into it and say okay, I know I have to get to the other side. I have to overcome. I have to get off the edge. Somewhere out there, the sun still shines and I will find that sunlight once again and when I do it's going to be a new path.

I try to explain to people with, major life ambushes, a lot of times people waste a lot of time focused on I want back what I lost. I want to repair this relationship. I want my job back; I want my business back. I lost all this money and I want it back. I want the lifestyle I had before I was severely injured like me, I want my health back. And the reality is it’s gone and never coming back. We have to focus on is how do I get to my new 100% I may not be able to fix what's broken, I embrace the open door. But you know, so many people are focused on the past. We have to focus on the future now. And how do we shape our future? And when we do that, that becomes our new path that becomes our new 100%.

Major life ambushes always leaves clues

Myrna: that is that is so true. We are always focused on the closed door and not the open door in front of us. So, you said that, major life ambushes, leave clues.  I can understand that a divorce leaves clues. You mentioned that when you walked in to the ambush on the battlefield, you noticed certain signs but you ignored them.  So how does that missing the clues in an ambush in the battlefield and missing the clues of a, major life ambush, in real life? Give us the correlation.

Jason: I have an online course that I teach called The Point Man For Life course. And point men are navigators and leaders in the military. They're very talented individuals, they get us where we need to go. You have to be, the point man, and it's for your own life. You have to be the one that sets your course that understands where you're going.  So, these indicators are the things that many of us through normal human activity. Either choose to ignore, or, procrastinate, we do all kinds of things. I mean, I break these things down.

You know, sometimes it's a blatant sign and I use a stop sign in my course. Like we just ignore it no different than somebody who is not paying attention. And they drive through an intersection and miss that stop sign. And they get hit by a car. Well, you know, afterwards, they're like, yeah, you missed this stop sign. That's, that's a really bleak one. But it happens all the time. It happens in businesses, it happens in relationships. If your spouse is constantly saying, hey, we've lost our intimacy or we're not talking as much anymore if we continue to ignore or just flat out, not pay attention to that, you are going to end up divorced. And then you say, I did not see it coming.

Myrna: Yeah, that's one of the ones I figured out because there's signs that the relationship is ending.

Signs of an ambush

Jason: Sometimes they're more subtle. Sometimes they can be helped. I know a lot of people who have health issues and like, oh, this is really been bothering me, but I'm just going to ignore it. And I'm amazed by how many people will do this because they're afraid of what could happen. And I tell people, you cannot procrastinate, deny or ignore. Those are dangerous things to do, because you're setting yourself up for a, life ambush. I give the example of a friend who was overweight who was successful business guy, but he was overweight. He wasn't taking care of himself physically.

The doctor was like, hey, you really need to start taking care of yourself and start working out. You need to watch your nutrition, you're a ticking time bomb for a heart attack. And, you know, he talked to me about working out and I said, yeah, you can do this. You do that and he never really did it. And then like a year later he had a heart attack and he's like, why did this happen? The signs were there, but no, you ignored them. And so many people do this in life.

How does situational awareness help in an ambush

Myrna: You also teach about, situational awareness. Tell us what that is.

Jason: So, I teach, situational awareness, in this society, that has to do with awareness and reaction time. We live in this world where we're all stuck scrolling our cell phones and I can't tell you how many people I have watched walking around, and they're totally absorbed in that cell phone, which means they're not paying attention to the world around them. I'm highly trained. I try to train other people up to a basic level. One of the things that we do in our, overcoming survive workshop is awareness and get out of that situation before it ever occurs.

So, you see things before they happen, you see the signs of the ambush. You are noticing the indicators before it ever develops into an ambush and you don't allow yourself to get on the X, the point of attack. You don't walk into that situation. So sometimes you can't help it. And that's where awareness and a little bit of training come in. I really encourage everybody out there to have some level of training for self-defense. I know that your target audience is women. I know there are a lot of women who are afraid of firearms. But I really encourage you learn to use a firearm.

We live in a country that whether you agree with it or not. A firearm can be the great equalizer if someone is coming after you and trying to break into your house or trying to rape or take your kids.  There is a level of training that needs to exist with that and I firmly believe we should get that.

Book: Point Man Planner
Book: Point Man Planner

The Point Man Planner

Tell us about your book The Point Man Planner. What you hope people to walk away with after getting this planner?

Jason: The Point Man Planner, came from the things that I've put in my life. They're also things that I saw in the military and some of these things are interchangeable. I just use a military Special Operations term. So, the idea around this, is that there's four-point man principles that everybody should follow.

  1. Relentless belief in mission: This is what makes a successful point man and what makes successful Navy Seals, but also what makes anybody successful. Mission is synonymous with purpose. I know a lot of people who don't really know who they are. The beginning of the point man planner starts with what are your values?
  2. I mean a lot of people who don't truly know their values, they will they will throw out the cliché values that everybody likes to throw out.  Fitness, family, spirituality but they are the individual that's never in the gym. Now they aren't doing much with their family, they're sure not in church. So those aren't really their values. Your values are what drive your decision.
  3. Have a clearly defined destination and course. Your destination is your long-term goals where do you want to go 10 years from now, where do you want to be?

What a Point Man does

Myrna: Can I interject here? That was the most one of the most beautiful things when you said that when you were in a mission, your point man pinpoints the exact location, not somewhere around a city but the exact number on the map.

Jason: Yeah, so we have to be very specific because most people are not just oh, I want to be rich. Okay, well, what does that mean? You know, I want you know, I want a big house. Okay, well, where and what is your look like? So, you must be very specific to establish because if it's not very specific, that we can establish all the steps to get there, and that becomes our course.  The course becomes all the steps required to get to where we're going. And this is constantly changing our lives, change our hopes, tunes, our desires.

  1. Develop the, overcome mindset: We've established our course, we know our mission, we have our purpose. Well, how do we avoid the ambushes or at least try and reduce them and I'm constantly checking, where are we at? Are we on course and, overcome mindset, to get off the gas because guess what? Life ambushes, are coming. I tell people you're either in a, life ambush, you're coming out, or there's one on the horizon.

Art of Fluidity: How to Flow Like Water

Water is a powerful force of nature that can teach us valuable lessons about life. Just like a river flowing through its banks, we too encounter obstacles and challenges along our journey. By mastering the art of fluidity, we can learn to navigate these obstacles with grace, ease, determination, and humility. In this article, we will explore the wisdom of water and discover six ways to flow like water in our own lives.

Key Takeaways: Flow Like Water

  • Embrace change: Water does not resist obstacles; it finds a way around them. Similarly, embracing change is crucial for personal growth. Learn to adapt to new circumstances, challenges, and opportunities with a flexible and open mindset.
  • Cultivate resilience: Water does not break; it bends. Developing resilience is key to navigating life's ups and downs. Like water, bounce back from setbacks and view challenges as opportunities to strengthen your resilience.
  • Find your path: Water finds its path. Rivers don't flow in a straight line; they meander and adapt to the landscape. In life, discover your unique path and be open to exploration. Allow yourself the freedom to evolve and pursue your passions.

Embrace Change like Water

Water is a master at adapting to change. It does not resist obstacles; instead, it finds a way around them. Similarly, embracing change is crucial for personal growth. Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and the ability to adapt to new circumstances, challenges, and opportunities is essential.

As Coach Myrna Young explains, “Embracing change is crucial for personal growth. Learn to adapt to new circumstances, challenges, and opportunities with a flexible and open mindset.” When we resist change, we limit our potential for growth and development. By embracing change, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and experiences.

Cultivate Resilience

Water does not break; it bends. It is a powerful force that can withstand tremendous pressure. Similarly, developing resilience is key to navigating life's ups and downs. Just like water, we can bounce back from setbacks and view challenges as opportunities to strengthen our resilience.

Coach Myrna Young emphasizes the importance of cultivating resilience, stating, “Developing resilience is key to navigating life's ups and downs. Like water, bounce back from setbacks and view challenges as opportunities to strengthen your resilience.” Resilience allows us to bounce back from adversity and continue moving forward. It enables us to face challenges head-on and overcome them with determination and perseverance.

Find Your Path

Water finds its path. Rivers don't flow in a straight line; they meander and adapt to the landscape. In life, it is essential to discover our unique path and be open to exploration. We must allow ourselves the freedom to evolve and pursue our passions.

Coach Myrna Young encourages us to find our path, stating, “In life, discover your unique path and be open to exploration. Allow yourself the freedom to evolve and pursue your passions.” Just like water, we must adapt to the circumstances and flow with the current. By finding our path and staying true to ourselves, we can navigate life's challenges with authenticity and purpose.

Stay Present

Water is fully present in the moment, whether it's flowing gently or crashing with force. It teaches us the importance of mindfulness and staying present in our own lives. By practicing mindfulness, we can respond thoughtfully to situations rather than react impulsively.

Coach Myrna Young highlights the significance of staying present, stating, “Practice mindfulness to stay present in your own life. This allows you to respond thoughtfully to situations rather than react impulsively.” When we are fully present, we can make conscious choices and act in alignment with our values and goals. It enables us to navigate life's currents with clarity and intention.

Water Goes with the Flow

Water effortlessly moves with the current, adapting its course accordingly. It teaches us the importance of letting go of rigid plans and going with the flow. Going with the flow doesn't mean being passive; it means being adaptable and responsive to the circumstances.

Coach Myrna Young shares a powerful visual, stating, “Imagine being in a rapid and paddling against the current. You're not going anywhere. But if you sit back and let the river take you where it wants to go, it's a much more pleasurable experience.” When we stop fighting against the current and go with the flow, we allow life to unfold naturally. We embrace the unknown and trust that everything is happening for our highest good.

Learn from Nature

Observing water in nature provides profound lessons. From the tranquility of a pond to the power of a waterfall, water exemplifies adaptability and fluidity. Spending time in nature allows us to draw inspiration and reflect on our own journey.

Coach Myrna Young encourages us to learn from nature, stating, “Observing water in nature provides some profound lessons. Spend time in nature to draw inspiration and reflect on your own journey.” Nature has a way of reminding us of our interconnectedness and the wisdom that can be found in the natural world. By immersing ourselves in nature, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our place in the universe.

In Conclusion

Mastering the art of, flowing like water, is an ongoing process. Embrace change, cultivate resilience, find your path, stay present, go with the flow, and learn from nature. These are the steps towards living a more adaptable and fluid life. As we navigate the currents of life, let us remember the wisdom of water and strive to be flexible, resilient, and graceful in our journey.

So, the next time you sit by a lake or watch a river flowing, take a moment to reflect on the lessons water can teach us. Embrace the fluidity of life and allow yourself to flow with grace and ease. Remember, just like water, you have the power to adapt, overcome, and find your unique path.

As Dr. Romie explains, a, busy brain, is not merely about having many thoughts, but primarily about the uncontrolled and intrusive nature of these thoughts.  Particularly negative ones, that people struggle to manage.

“A busy brain is you have a pattern of inflammation in your brain that's causing these three symptoms. […] difficulty focusing, feeling anxious, and insomnia.”

By understanding that a, busy brain, is a condition amplified by, chronic stress, and inflamed neurological pathways, the first step towards managing it lies in recognizing its symptoms and impact on our daily functions.

Uncovering the Hurt: Identifying and Accepting

In her book Forgiveness as a Lifelong Journey, author Carol M. Williams explores the transformative, power of forgiveness. She emphasizes that forgiveness is not just a feeling, but a deliberate choice that can lead to profound personal growth and mental health improvement. Williams highlights the importance to forgive in our relationships with God, ourselves, and others.

The first step is practicing, forgiveness meditation, to identify the hurt. Williams suggests conducting a self-assessment to understand how the hurt is affecting us on a daily basis. By acknowledging the pain and its impact, we can begin to accept our past and the circumstances that led to the hurt. This acceptance is crucial because we cannot change what has happened, but we can choose how we respond to it.

Healing the Heart: Releasing Resentment and Embracing Forgiveness

Once we have identified the hurt, the next step is to release resentment. Williams acknowledges that this is often the most difficult part of the process. Many people hold onto anger, hurt, and bitterness for years, which only perpetuates their suffering. To release these negative emotions, Williams suggests practicing self-compassion and mindfulness.

Self-compassion involves forgiving ourselves and letting go of self-blame. It is important to recognize that we are not perfect and that we make mistakes. By practicing self-compassion, we can begin to heal our hearts and move towards our, forgiveness journey.

In addition to self-compassion, Williams emphasizes the importance of empathy and understanding. By putting ourselves in the shoes of the person who hurt us, we can begin to see their perspective and find compassion for them. This does not mean excusing their actions, but rather acknowledging that they may have been going through their own struggles or difficulties. By embracing empathy, we can start to let go of the resentment and anger that holds us back from unforgiveness.

Embracing Forgiveness: Restoring Self-Worth and Crafting a New Narrative

The final stage of the, forgiveness journey, is embracing truth. Williams outlines a nine-step program that guides individuals through this process. One of the key steps is restoring self-worth. When someone has hurt us deeply, it is common to question our own worth and blame ourselves for the pain we have experienced. By working on restoring self-worth, we can begin to appreciate the positive aspects of ourselves and recognize that we deserve healing.

Another important step in the process is crafting a new narrative. This involves creating a new, positive story around our experiences. Instead of dwelling on the hurt and pain, we can focus on moving forward and creating a better future for ourselves. By reframing our experiences in a positive light, we can find healing and freedom.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this is a lifelong journey that requires deliberate choice, self-compassion, and empathy. It is not an easy process, but it has the power to transform our lives and improve our overall well-being. By identifying and accepting the hurt, releasing resentment, embracing empathy, restoring self-worth, and crafting a new narrative, we can embark on a path of emotional freedom.

If you are struggling with unforgiveness, remember that help is available. Carol M. Williams offers a comprehensive, forgiveness coaching program, and has written a heartfelt guide in her book Forgiveness as a Lifelong Journey. Through her work, she empowers individuals to release the weight of the past, embrace a future filled with love and understanding, and change their lives one forgiveness step at a time.

The Role of Probiotics in Gut Health and Brain Health

Tina Anderson, Founder of Just Thrive stops by the show to talk about the role of probiotics in gut health and brain health. Probiotics is like the gardener, its job is to keep the good plants (good bacteria) and get rid of the weeds (bad bacteria). Just Thrive probiotics does this better than any other products on the market because our probiotics arrive alive in the intestine.

The difference with Just Thrive probiotics is that they have this endospore shell around them and that's why we call them spore-based probiotics. This gives them the ability to get through that stomach acid, that gastric system alive.  It is not until they hit the intestines, that the endospore shell comes off and that is when they go into their live vegetative cell state to promote gut and brain health.

Our product Just Calm  is helping communication between the gut and the brain and helping those external stressors that we're faced with by lowering our cortisol levels.

Bio

Tina Anderson’s journey into the world of health had a unique start and some unusual turns. She began her career as a trial lawyer who specialized in settling cases by bringing both sides together, a personal passion of hers. Once her second child arrived, Tina left that high-stress job behind so she could focus on her family.

Luckily, she was still able to use her considerable legal skills to point her career in a new direction as the in-house counsel for a family pharmaceutical company. But what Tina saw there made her change direction again. Frustrated by the many abuses in the pharmaceutical industry,

Tina turned toward the field of natural health, and found her life’s work. She channeled her energy into learning all she could about disease prevention and good health maintenance. That led her to discover the importance of gut health and how connected and crucial it is for overall health and wellness. To share her discovery with the world, Tina along with her husband created a unique supplement that contains the superior probiotic strains of renowned researcher Dr. Simon Cutting. By promoting gut health and probiotics, Tina shares her passion for wellness, helping others live their best physical and emotional lives.

How Just Thrive got started

Tina:  I had a very interesting journey. I was I started out in litigation but I wasn't fulfilled in my career. And so, I decided to leave that behind and go into a family pharmaceutical business and had a much better work life balance with my kids. I was able to walk them to school and have more time for prayer, meditation, all of those things. My husband started this company together, we were able to license, probiotic strains, from London University, Dr. Simon a cutting edge world renowned probiotic expert.

And we were able to go into a field that was so impactful, and it was actually impacting health and society and it was really exciting. We knew when you took care of your gut, that everything else starts to fall into place. There was so much research coming out of the Human Microbiome Project was launched by the National Institutes of Health told us more about the gut than we ever knew before, and really told us that the gut is responsible for virtually every aspect of our overall health.

It's hard to find any disease claim that's not associated with some imbalance in our gut health. Very few probiotics on the market, were doing what they needed to do, they were not making that journey to the intestines alive so, we decided to go ahead and launch this product to fill the gap in the market.

What is the Gut Microbiome

Myrna: Can we step back a little bit and talk about the gut, microbiome, and the blood brain barrier. I know that there are certain things that pass through your gut and cause a whole bunch of disease.  What are, probiotics, and how do they help us in the gut?

Tina: It’s great to start with the fundamentals. Our, microbiome, is the totality of organisms that make up the gut. So, we've got, bacteria, viruses, fungi, you know, parasites, all these different things like make up our the totality of our microbiome. So, all of these microorganisms most of which are bacteria, we are 10 times more bacteria than we are human. We think bacteria is bad, but bacteria is so incredibly beneficial to us, so supportive of our health and our organs.

Less than 1% of bacteria is actually bad.  And so, when we just realized that we have to support our microbiome, in our gut and not kill it off. Constipation, diarrhea, gas and bloating, these are all signs that you have some imbalance going on in your, gut microbiome. But what people are just starting to understand is that it also dictates your, brain health.

  • It dictates your mood, how you're feeling,
  • your sleep,
  • it's dictating your hormone health,
  • it's dictating autoimmune issues, your immune system 80% of our immune system is found in our gut.
Transform Your Mind Amazon
Transform Your Mind Amazon

Gut bacteria and leaky gut

Our, gut bacteria, sends signals to our immune cells and tells them okay, there's something going on, you need to start fighting this infection.  So, it's really important that we understand that our immune system would cease to function if we don't have the, gut microbiome, sending signals to our, immune cells.  If you have an, autoimmune disease, it's pretty much guaranteed you have imbalance in your gut, you have a, leaky gut.

We have a double-blind human clinical trial on, leaky gut, that is so profound.  It's important for everybody to understand that it is our gut is dictating all aspects of our overall health. And there is something called the, vagus nerve, that is sends signals from the gut to the brain, and then sends signals from the brain back down to the gut. We all know that feeling you're excited about something and you have butterflies in your stomach, that's the gut brain connection.

We know when we get nervous, you have to go to the bathroom. Same thing the brain is sending signals down to the gut. But what we're also starting to understand is now the gut is sending signals to the brain. So, if you have a healthy balanced, microbiome, they send more calming signals to it. The opposite is also true, if you have an imbalanced gut, it sends signals to your brain that are not so healthy.

Brain health and gut health

Understand that it is foundational for our health to focus on our gut. It is where we start. People take multivitamins and they take vitamin C and vitamin D, and those are all important things to be taking. But we need to focus on our, gut health, before we do anything else. And unfortunately, this world we live in is so offensive to the bacteria, we are 10 times more bacterial cells, but we use hand sanitizers and antibacterial soaps to kill off our bacteria.

When you go into the doctor and they say, you have an, autoimmune disease, you need to figure out what it is that's causing this imbalance and this issue and getting to the root cause of it.  So, probiotics,  need to arrive alive in the intestines and make the garden better. So, if you kind of compare your intestinal tract to a garden, you get the weeds which are the bad bacteria and then you have the good plants that are the good bacteria in your gut.

So, the idea is to get those, probiotic strains, into the intestines. The problem with a lot of, probiotics, on the market the vast majority of, probiotics, that are out there have difficulty getting through your stomach acid. That stomach acid is meant to be the gastric barrier. It's meant to keep out things that we don't want in there. So as a result, most, probiotic strains, really have difficulty getting into the intestines and so they're dying by the time they get to the intestines.

And so that was a big problem that we identified and solved with our, Just Thrive probiotics.  So, that's the point of a, probiotic, to make the ecosystem in your gut better and to make it more balanced.  We don't necessarily want to get rid of all the bad bacteria. We just want a better balance in the gut of our good and bad bacteria.

Just Thrive spore-based probiotics

The difference with, Just Thrive probiotics, is that they have this endospore shell around it and that's why we call them, spore-based probiotics, and they have the ability to get through that stomach acid that gastric system alive.  And it is not until they hit the intestines, that endospore shell comes off and that is when they go into their live vegetative cell state.

Myrna: I understand that because I am taking, Just Thrive probiotics, and I see the difference.  I'm taking the, Just Thrive probiotics, and, Just Calm.

Tina: It is helping get rid of the weeds in the garden. It's helping take those plants that have been stepped down and trampled on and help them thrive and flourish in your gut. And that's why people see such profound results whether it's, becoming more regular, whether it's less gas and bloating, whether it's better mood, better sleep or I'm able to manage my weight better because my gut bacteria is dictating all of those things.

Myrna: Well, yeah, I have noticed that I'm definitely more regular. What are your newest products? What is the difference between probiotics and prebiotics?  Tell us about the newest, Just Thrive, product, Just Calm.

Tina: Yeah, so this is exciting. You know, one of our big core competencies in our company is that we do not produce anything unless it is missing or needed in the market. So, we do not want supplements like vitamin C and vitamin D. Those are all really important nutrients. But there's lots of companies out there doing that great. We are only launching products that are truly missing and needed and researched in the market. So, we just discovered this, probiotic strain.

Transform Your Mind Podcast Player FM
Transform Your Mind Podcast Player FM

Phychobiotic the gut friendly probiotic

It is called, psychobiotic. Psychobiotic, is basically gut friendly probiotic that is supporting the gut brain access. So, it's further supporting that communication between the gut and the brain. And so, we know that the gut this is important. I think people are just starting to understand this 90% of our serotonin, which is our happy hormone is produced in our gut for all these years. I feel like psychiatrists have had their hands tied by you know, prescribing, you know, anti-anxiety meds.

90% of our serotonin is produced in our gut. Dopamine is produced in our gut, GABA, which is our calming hormone is produced in our gut. And yet, nobody is talking about that when it comes to, brain health. And so, probiotics, are supporting your serotonin production and your GABA and dopamine but the key with those, psycho biotic, that is found in our product, Just Calm, is that it's actually supporting that, gut brain access.

So, it is helping bring down cortisol levels. We know that cortisol is really disruptive to our gut, it's bringing up we're in that fight or flight response all the time. The problem isn't when you have a, leaky gut, that toxins from your gut seep into your bloodstream and they start to create this inflammatory response and you have this chronic low-grade inflammation, that sending signals up to your brain and so now you have inflammation in your brain. That is the one cause of problems with your, brain health.

Transform your Mind Podcast Index
Transform your Mind Podcast Index

Brain inflammation is caused by external stressors

The other cause of brain inflammation are external stressors. So, we get cut off by traffic, you’ve gotten into a fight with a loved one, whatever it might be that's causing this stress that also causes this inflammation. So, we want to stop both of those things as much as possible or halt as much as possible. We want to get rid of that, leaky gut, and that's what the probiotic is doing. And then those external stressors, we want to be able to manage them better. and by lowering our cortisol.  So, that's what the, Just Calm, product is doing.

It is helping communication between the gut and the brain and helping those external stressors that we're faced with. Intermittent fasting, is just another tool I have in my toolbox. We want to do meditation and deep breathing, whatever it is that calms you down. It's really important whether even if it's changing your lifestyle. There are studies that show that when you, intermittent fasting, it helps increase diversity in the microbiome.

So, the important thing in our gut is we want a diverse, microbiome. We just we don't want one kind of good bacteria. We want lots of different kinds of good bacteria and we were born with a lot of diversity. And we know that, intermittent fasting, helps support diversity.  By starving some of those bacteria it helps them proliferate, which seems counterintuitive, but it's been shown to actually help with supporting your, gut bacteria.

What are prebiotics

Prebiotics, is the fertilizer and the probiotic is like the gardener. The gardener is getting rid of the weeds and helping those plants come back to life. The, prebiotic, is the fertilizer for that garden, so it is feeding the good bacteria in your gut. To really to be defined as a, prebiotic, it needs to only target the beneficial bacteria. So, the good plants in the garden, but the problem is a lot of, prebiotics, it that the actually make a problem worse, by fertilizing the weeds as well as the good plants.

But if you look at our, prebiotic, it's called a precision prebiotic.  We didn't launch a prebiotic for a long time because we could not find prebiotic fibers that only targeted the beneficial bacteria. And so yeah, so our, prebiotic, is only fertilizing the good bacteria in the gut.

We have a product called gut fortified that is helping the mucosal barrier of our gut. We have a health coach on our team, that if anyone have any questions about which products to start with, especially if you have some severe gut dysbiosis and gut issues that you want to deal with, she can help you with a plan of what to do or which products to use.

But I always suggest that people start with a, probiotic, it is foundational for anything else you're doing.  You're eating all these really healthy foods, but if your gut is inflamed, it's not absorbing nutrients. You're taking all these other supplements but if your gut is inflamed, it's not absorbing those nutrients. So, I always suggest people start with the probiotic.  It's our number one selling product.  It's important to stay on it for a couple of months to actually start to notice the difference.

Emotional Intelligence in Relationships

If you do not take control of your,  emotional intelligence, and thoughts, they will repeat in cycles. We need to use our emotional intelligence to enhance our relationships. We have over 70,000 thoughts per day and 90% of these thoughts repeat over and over. That is why people get stuck in life, reliving the past like groundhog day. This is especially true in our intimate relationships.

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability to manage both your own emotions and understand the emotions of people around you. There are five key elements to EI: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.

Jenny R. Craig, LCSW, BCD is a, transformation, specialist, utilizing her expertise in assisting leaders in creating authentic, profound, long-lasting impact in their organizations and personal lives.

Emotional intelligence, is important because, Strategic planning,  does not kick in until the mid-twenties.

Also any huge trauma changes the way the brain works.

As a, transformation, coach we give our clients tools and techniques that can move them through the darkness of being stuck in rewind, and into the light. The light is to find out your true purpose and discover who you really are.

Emotional Intelligence, allows you to do the mental work in living a purposeful life.

Here are four traits of Emotional Intelligence:

* Self Awareness: Knowing what we are feeling and why we are feeling this way.

Self awareness definition: They said that self-awareness is the ability to look inward, think deeply about your behavior, and consider how it aligns with your moral standards and values. When your behavior is out of alignment with your standards, you feel uncomfortable, unhappy and negative.

* Self Management: Handling distressing emotions so that they don't cripple you. Self-management, which is also referred to as “self-control” or “self-regulation,” is the ability to regulate one's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations.

* Empathy: Knowing what someone else is feeling. Being capable of walking in another man's shoes. Empathy is generally described as the ability to take on another's perspective, to understand, feel and possibly share and respond to their experience. There are more definitions of empathy that include but is not limited to social, cognitive, and emotional processes primarily concerned with understanding others

* Skilled Relationships: There is not a better barometer of, emotional intelligence, than the quality of one's relationships. When you put the top three skills together, you will have quality and healthy relationships.

What is Emotional Intelligence in Relationships

Emotional intelligence, refers, to the ability to identify and manage one’s own, emotions, as well as the, emotions, of others.

Emotional intelligence, is generally said to include at least three skills:

  • emotional awareness,
  • the ability to identify and name one’s own, emotions
  • the ability to harness those, emotions, and apply them to tasks like thinking and problem solving
  • the ability to manage, emotions, which includes both regulating one’s own, emotions, when necessary and helping others to do the same.

There is no validated, emotional intelligence test.

Despite this criticism, the concept of, emotional intelligence, sometimes referred to as emotional quotient or EQ—has gained wide acceptance. In recent years, some employers have even incorporated, emotional intelligence tests, into their application and interview processes, on the theory that someone high in, emotional intelligence, would make a better leader or coworker.

The reasons we, meditate , are as varied as the many ways there are to meditate. In the West, most people are drawn to, meditation, to quiet the internal chatter of the brain and to reduce stress. Meditation, is indeed, a very effective stress reducer, but its benefits—sometimes mysteriously hidden—are far more bountiful. The actual act of, mindfulness meditation, can be as simple as sitting quietly and focusing on your breath while repeating silently a mantra—a word or phrase.

There are countless traditions and no singular “correct” way to practice, meditation. Find a practice that you like and stick with it for a while. Notice how you feel as you go about your days. If you find that you have more patience, feel grounded and better able to respond to stressful situations, and are more in touch with your intuition or “gut feelings,” you are enjoying the many benefits of meditation.

I, meditate, by finding a quiet place in the morning as I drink my coffee. I listen to a, guided meditation, tape on topics such as “activating consciousness”, visionary me meditation, “the law of attraction” etc. as I listen I clear my mind by mentally repeating a centering thought and witnessing my breathing.

At the end of my, mindfulness meditation, I am  relaxed,  totally open and creative. I usually write some deep insights after my, meditation, sessions and I get answers from God and the Universe to questions I ask. This is the perfect way to become a visionary and an innovative leader.

MINDFULNESS-MEDITATION

1: Mindfulness Meditation is good for our Physical Bodies

Scientists gathering data on, mindfulness meditation, have found that a consistent practice of meditation not only boosts the mind, but it also bolsters the body. Studies shows that, mindfulness meditation, can help reverse heart disease, reduce pain, and support the immune system, better enabling it to fight disease.

The mind-body connection between stress and disease is abundantly apparent as science is finding that meditation can lower production of the stress hormone cortisol. This means meditators are better able to adapt to stress in their lives.

2: Mindfulness Meditation is good for Our Relationships

Paradoxically, while, mindfulness meditation, helps us tune in and turn inward to our true essence, it also helps us detach from our own egos to connect with others in more meaningful ways. Couples counselors have found when they assign their clients meditation, the couples become less angry, more self-reflective, and more loving.

When we become aware of—and honor—our interconnection with other beings, we are able to recast our perspectives, see our worries in a different light, and embrace gratitude, which is the heart’s memory. The bible teaches that we can't change others only ourselves and when we, meditate, we tune into who we really are.

Our ancestral legacy is a brain that is primed to focus on negative experiences and has a tendency to get stuck in conditioned patterns of thinking, returning again and again to thoughts of anxiety, depression, and limitation. So in our relationships we tend to focus on what we do not have instead of what we do have.

As you, meditate, on a regular basis, you develop what is known as “witnessing awareness”—the ability to calmly and objectively observe a situation, notice when you are being triggered, and consciously choose how you want to respond. The ability to be present and aware is extremely valuable in every relationship.

benefits of meditation

3: Meditation helps prolong our lives

When you, meditate, you strengthen your intuition, awareness, and most importantly, your own sense of self.  Yogis and doctors both agree: meditating—even just a few minutes of deep breathing—relaxes the brain, reduces anxiety, and decreases depression. We say we can't afford the time to meditate, but the truth is we can't afford not to.

When we tell ourselves we don't have time to exercise, or meditate, then we will make time for sickness and depression. During most of our waking lives, our minds are engaged in a continuous internal dialogue in which the meaning and emotional associations of one thought triggers the next.

We hear a snippet of music and suddenly we’re thinking about the first time we heard that song with an old boyfriend or girlfriend and how that relationship ended. If we’re still holding emotional pain over that ending, those feelings may bubble up and then our mind may veer into criticism, self-pity, or worries about the future.

Meditation, is one of the best tools we have to counter the brain’s negativity bias, release accumulated stress, foster positive experiences and intentions, and enjoy the peace of present moment awareness. A large body of research has established that having a regular, meditation, practice produces tangible benefits for mental and physical health, including:

Benefits of Meditation

  • Decreased blood pressure and hypertension
  • Lowered cholesterol levels
  • Reduced production of “stress hormones,” including cortisol and adrenaline
  • More efficient oxygen use by the body
  • Increased production of the anti-aging hormone DHEA
  • Improved immune function
  • Decreased anxiety, and insomnia

4: Mindfulness Meditation Reduces Stress and Burnout

What role is more stressful than the role of a Leader? None, as a Leader you are responsible for the lives of your employees, families, and your commitment to your community? Chronic, unmanaged stress can make you sick and accelerate aging. As many scientific studies have found, prolonged stress can contribute to high blood pressure, heart disease, stomach ulcers, autoimmune diseases, anxiety, cancer, insomnia, chronic fatigue, obesity, depression, and accelerated aging.

In, mindfulness meditation, your body releases stress and reverses the effects of the flight-or-fight response—that ancient instinct we all have to either run from perceived danger or take it on in battle. Intended as a short-term protection mechanism, fight or flight causes our body to speed up our heart rate, increase our blood sugar, suppress our immune system, reduce insulin production, pump out stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol, and reduce the blood supply to our digestive organs.

All of these reactions happen so that our body can focus on either running away as fast as it can—or staying to fight. Although few people reading this face daily threats to their bodily existence, many live in a prolonged state of fight or flight, generating stress in response to bad traffic, criticism from a spouse, or a disagreement.

Regular, meditation, dissipates accumulated stress and cultivates a state of restful alertness. There are many compelling studies showing the power of meditation to relieve stress and promote inner calm. For example, a 2011 study published in the Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine Journal found that full-time workers who spent a few hours each week practicing mindfulness meditation reported a significant decrease in job stress, anxiety, and depressed mood.

The reason, meditation, is so popular amongst successful individuals is it helps release stress, lets go of excess thoughts and expand awareness. As you dive deeper into your, meditation, you see people, events and circumstances as they really are, not as they are perceived to be. It allows you to have an internal Locus of control.

That means that you don't react to external stimuli but are proactive with action plans and goals. It also means that as challenges arise in your, business, you will not get overwhelmed; but face those challenges calmly and efficiently.  As an Entrepreneur Leader, meditation, allows you to turn your failures into successes.

5: Meditation Enhances Your Concentration, Memory, and Ability to Learn

As researchers have found, meditation, can help you tap into your brain’s deepest potential to focus, learn, and adapt. While scientists used to believe that beyond a certain age, the brain couldn’t change or grow, we now know that the brain has a quality known as plasticity, enabling it to grow new neurons and transform throughout our lives.

Meditation, is a powerful tool for awakening new neural connections and even transforming regions of the brain.  A recent study led by Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital found that after only eight weeks of, meditation, participants experienced beneficial growth in the brain areas associated with memory, learning, empathy, self-awareness, and stress regulation.  In addition, the meditators reported decreased feelings of anxiety and greater feelings of calm. This study adds to the expanding body of research about the brain’s amazing plasticity and ability to change habitual stress patterns.

Many other studies provide evidence for the value of, meditation, in improving the ability to stay focused in world filled with increasing distractions and demands on our attention. For example, research conducted by the UCLA Mindful Awareness Center showed that teenagers and adults with ADHD who practiced various forms of meditation for just eight weeks improved their ability to concentrate on tasks, even when attempts were made to distract them. In the world of the Entrepreneur Leader, the ability to focus when you are pulled in so many different directions is extremely important to your success.

6: Meditation Improves Your Creativity and Problem-Solving Skills

We each have an estimated 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts a day—unfortunately, many of them are the same thoughts we had yesterday, last week, and last year. The mind tends to get stuck in repetitive thought loops that squeeze out the possibility for new ideas and inspiration.

Meditation, is a powerful practice for going beyond habitual, conditioned thought patterns into a state of expanded awareness. We connect to what is known as the field of infinite possibilities or pure potentiality, and we open to new insights, intuition, and ideas. And as we meditate and focus on our breathing, we stop this continuous cycle.

7: Meditation Decreases Anxiety, and Insomnia

The emotional effects of sitting quietly and going within are profound.  The deep state of rest produced by, meditation, triggers the brain to release neurotransmitters, including dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins. Each of these naturally occurring brain chemicals has been linked to different aspects of happiness:

Dopamine plays a key role in the brain’s ability to experience pleasure, feel rewarded, and maintain focus. Serotonin has a calming effect. It eases tension and helps us feel less stressed and more relaxed and focused. Low levels of this neurotransmitter have been linked to migraines, anxiety, bipolar disorder, apathy, feelings of worthlessness, fatigue, and insomnia.

Oxytocin (the same chemical whose levels rise during sexual arousal and breastfeeding), is a pleasure hormone. It creates feelings of calm, contentment, and security, while reducing fear and anxiety.  Endorphins are most commonly known as the chemicals that create the exhilaration commonly labeled “the runner’s high.” These neurotransmitters play many roles related to well being, including decreasing feelings of pain and reducing the side effects of stress.

What is the Difference between, Thriving, and,  Surviving?

There's a huge difference between, surviving, and thriving. Surviving, means to “continue to live or exist, especially in spite of danger or hardship.” Thriving, means to “prosper, be fortunate or successful, to grow or develop vigorously; to flourish.”

I really found myself moving on my career path very quickly. I was promoted to deputy principal of a large junior high school when I was 28.  I was appointed to be the catalyst for change.  I was the youngest on the staff and for the first six months. I was working directly with the principal because I was the deputy principal to strategically plan what we were going to do and start making the changes.

In the UK schools have a week off in February for the spring half term.  I was really thrilled to be going skiing with the kids. I was a keen skier and went off to Italy for the ski trip. In those days it was very fashionable to have the longest skis possible and I got a new pair of skis for Christmas.  I proceeded to wrap the extra 10 centimetres’ of the skis.

We left for the ski lift after lunch the next day after arrival. It was an absolutely beautiful day, one of those days in the mountains where the sun was shining and everything was clean and crisp.  I followed my friends to this new trail, when our lift turned a corner, I noticed the mountain was not as we expected.   Instead of being on a lovely red run that went for three or four kilometres, we were on the Schindler slope, which was the most difficult black run called a mogul.

A mogul is where the snow has been carved by the weather and they are often little cobblestones;  but these were six-foot monsters and the only way to ski was to turn on the top of a mogul and slide down and then find a way through the moguls till the next one, and turn on either side a narrow piece.

There was some powder snow, so I skied the first bird and then lost my nerve in terms of turning and ended up falling a long way in the powder snow.  It took me about 20 minutes to retrieve my ski and then make my way down to where my friends were sitting.  Each of them sitting on a mogul rather like an elf sitting on a toadstool!

I decided to sit on a mogul as well and the top of my mogul gave way and I starting to fall.  The next thing I knew, I was coming to. I had lost consciousness.  I'm told I fell about 150 to 200 feet down the mountain.

We were traveling home the next morning, so I thought I'd rather go and see the medics in the UK instead of Italy. I had a  terrible journey home.  My mum took one look at me and she carted me off to the emergency at the hospital. They diagnosed with a bad concussion and that I had damaged a nerve in my neck.

It took me three weeks to get back to school and two weeks later I was due to be the deputy leader on a skiing trip to Switzerland.  I was given permission to go because we were taking a doctor with us.  I was finding it more and more difficult to manage but I did manage until the very last evening when I said to a staff member, I'm going to have to go and lie down.

I wasn’t laying on my bed for more than a few minutes when I discovered that I was paralyzed.  So I'm lying on my bed, I can't feel my one side, I didn't want to frighten the children, their rooms were children down the corridor, and so I waited until one of the other adults arrived.  I have to say it was the longest time in my life. I have no idea how long it was, I just know it felt like forever.

When they did arrive all hell broke loose, an ambulance was called. I was carted off to Geneva Hospital and I was there for several days before being flown home and gradually my mobility returned; but I was never quite the same.  By the end of May, I went back to school.  I was doing school and sleep.

Surviving after the accident

I thought I've had six weeks to recuperate during the summer break but;  two weeks later I had a phone call very early in the morning from my principal's wife, she had just found him dead in bed, he had a massive heart attack and so far from being restful holiday I was suddenly acting principal.

I had to contact the staff, the parents and the local authority and prepare for September and so by the time September came, I had plans in place and by the following January I was appointed the permanent head master.  I was determined that not only the children; but also the staff in my school would get the best learning environment that I could produce. That they would, thrive not just survive.   I've been very unhappy at school, and I wanted something very different for my pupils, and also for the staff.

I was walking, but by 1987 my mobility was deteriorating, and I had to start using the wheelchair in school.  I wasn't at that point wheelchair-bound, I could walk into the classroom, I could walk into my office; but I couldn't walk any distance.  Any walking produced fatigue and pain and for the next few years I managed like that until in 1996, I sneezed and I felt something ping in my back.  It was towards the end of the summer term, there's something about the summer holidays for me, I'm not quite sure what I did.

I had a special chair in assembly and that where I could sit at standing height, and one day I went to get off the chair, and my legs wouldn't hold me. I fell to the floor. So off to the hospital.  It turned out that I had a huge ruptured disc. I was just, surviving.  I had failed back surgery syndrome, so when I came around from the operation, if I put my left foot to the floor, then I just used to faint because of the pain. Surviving, was becoming tedious.

The best explanation the doctors came up with is that during the fall I had bruised the spinal cord and with skiing the second time, that the spinal cord had been swollen and cut off the blood supply or whatever, and so a period of time I was paralyzed on one side; but I was back at school after the back operation very quickly.  I already had my wheelchair, so the school was all set up for me to be operating from a wheelchair. I was still just, surviving.  It took me 18 months to walk at the end of my quite small garden.

I ruptured another disk that summer.  I could not stand at all now, if I stayed at home, I couldn't do anything other than read or watch television.  If my care giver didn’t fill the kettle,  I couldn't make myself a drink.  So I decided to go back to school. I was back at school because my brain worked, my mouth worked, my hands worked.  I had people who could lift things if I needed it and I could do what I loved and I was good at. Surviving was my intent.  I was going to focus on what I could do to start, thriving, not just surviving.

In 2004 I was given an ultimatum by the neurologist you've got to stop working the 15 hours a day that you're doing because my health was deteriorating.  I made the very difficult decision that I was going to leave the school.  I had to use an electric wheelchair.   I had all of these Skills, these expertise, experience and I thought well.  What am I going to do now?

I decided to focus on the development of leadership.  Getting more women to the table. I looked at retail manufacturing, finance, Insurance, local government and a whole range of industries.  The issues that they faced in terms of developing leadership, was no different in education, so I wrote my first couple of books and they became my credibility.  I worked mainly in corporate field as an, executive coach. I was now, thriving. The recession in early 2008 hurt my business, because the corporations just slashed training  and development.  I was back to, surviving.

I started to do some lecturing for the university and they would commission me out to go and work with smaller businesses, SME is anything up to about 8 million pound turnover. I would go and work with these companies, we'd sort out the problem, I'd go away and then a few months later I'd be invited back to sort out another problem, so I suggested in those businesses to hire me full time as an, executive coach.

Back to, thriving, using the principles that I used to build up my own organization and become one of the best 100 schools in England.  I used the gift that my disability gave me and the gift that I had developed within my own organization to developing people's empowerment, personal empowerment and leadership where they would take radical responsibility for their own performance and shared responsibility for the team, for the whole organization and it was incredibly successful.

So I setup genuinely you.  I wrote the book, thriving not surviving,  and that sent me on my mission.  My mission now is to positively impact one million people and to do that through personal empowerment and enlightened leadership.

How can people go from, Thriving, to, Surviving, when facing challenges?

It's a bit serendipitous.  You have a problem, you find a way to get over it, then something

else happens and you find another way to keep, surviving.  When I came to write, thriving not surviving,  and it was the second book that I'd written around looking at the strategies that I'd used to overcome my personal challenges and going from, surviving, to thriving.  The first book

was called,  Chariots on Fire,  that was  my story and the personal strategies that I used to overcome the difficulty of, surviving,  but between 2009 and 2017, a lot of things changed.

I've done a lot of development work on myself and I'd worked with thousands of people and so I had moved my thinking.

Here are the Two areas to focus to start, Thriving, and stop, Surviving.

  1. Beliefs – our beliefs about ourselves become our reality. If you believe you'll fail, the chances are you won't even start.  If you believe you'll might fail, you're going to make a set of decisions.  If you believe I'm going to succeed,  don't quite know how but; I'm going to succeed, your beliefs about whether you're enough or whether you are, too fat, too tall, too short, not rich enough, not educated enough,  too old, too young, those beliefs absolutely determine what sort of quality of life you're going to have.
  2. The second pathways is relationships. You want to be, thriving, in your relationships. Every relationship we have with other people is a mirror image of the relationship we have with ourselves.  So if you don't feel that you're enough,  if you listen to other people's opinions rather than trusting your own, if you believe that you deserve to be treated badly because you don't actually love and appreciate yourself, you're going to put up with people treating you in a very different way, than if you actually have confidence and a good self-esteem.  So the relationships we have with ourselves are incredibly important.

In a past episode Surviving R Kelly: the Mindset of a Predator,

The Lifetime series, Surviving R. Kelly, and the follow up Dateline episode, show a rich and famous R. Kelly feeding his sex machine with women of all ages. His preference seemed to be teenage girls as young as 12 years old; but women in their 30’s had the same experience.  One said that she did unspeakable things in a Black room, was starved, had to ask before she went to the bathroom, was physically abused, and had to call  Art. Kelly,  Daddy.

So in this interview, Nicole and  I  explore the mindset of  predator and how women of all ages can use their intuition to escape the lair of a predator.

These women who were a part of the, surviving R Kelly, documentary, had to learn to be strong minded. Similarly Gina had to learn to push past her flesh and fight to do the things she had always done, like lead a school. One of the victims in the, Surviving R. Kelly, interview, said just that.  She said that, sexual predators, look for the, weak minded woman,.  They usually go for the young, like teenagers because they are, weak minded women,  but if they find you are weak minded as an adult, then you become a victim as well.  She was one of the women in her 30’s who was a victim.  So if you are a, weak minded woman, then you are not using your intuition, instead, you are looking for this person to fill the void in your life, and in, the mindset of a sexual predator, they are more than happy to accommodate.

Embracing Mortality: How To Live Like You Will Die Tomorrow

How to live, like you will die tomorrow, is one way to embrace your mortality. Death anxiety,  often brings fear and apprehension, but what if acknowledging the inevitability of death could become a catalyst for living a more fulfilled, passionate life? In a candid conversation between life coach Myrna Young and spiritual teacher Kate Manser, inspiring insights are shared on, how to live life, to the fullest by embracing the possibility that tomorrow may never come.

Key Takeaways:
  • Mortality Awareness as a Catalyst for Living: Recognizing the impermanence of life can be a powerful motivator to live more freely and joyously.
  • Personal Awakening Through Challenging Events: Experiencing loss or trauma can lead to profound self-discovery and a deeper appraisal of life.
  • Daily Practices for a Fuller Life: Implementing mindfulness habits and seeking joy in every day can transform ordinary experiences into extraordinary ones.

Awakening to Life Through the Lens of Mortality

Kate Mansor's personal journey of transformation underscores how facing mortality head-on can lead to an awakening. After the sudden loss of several friends, Kate grappled with deep, death anxiety, the fear that she could die at any moment. This fear initially paralyzed her, making her afraid to truly live. However, the untimely death of a colleague on Mount Everest became a pivotal turning point. She realized that regardless of how one chooses to live, the end is inevitable for everyone. This revelation shifted her perspective from fearing death to using the awareness of mortality as a motivating force for living passionately and authentically.

“… What was the scariest thing for me? The idea that I might die tomorrow. After that, it became the most motivating, inspiring, and clarity inducing mantra of my life.” — Kate Manser

Kate speaks to the transformative power of integrating mortality into one's life philosophy. When we internalize the transient nature of our existence, every moment becomes precious. This realization serves as a foundation to build a life that allows for greater clarity, urgency, and purpose.

Mortality Awareness: Live Like You Will Die Tomorrow

Life inevitably throws challenges our way — divorce, loss, depression, and the like. Instead of allowing these moments to define us negatively, Kate advocates for embracing pain as part of the full spectrum of human experience. It's not just about loving life when it’s easy, but accepting and understanding that pain and challenges are equally integral to the human condition.

“…if I say I love life, but I only love the part of life that's fun and shiny…then I don't really love life. I love easy life…” — Kate Manser

Kate and Myrna discuss how through our trials, we find connections with others who have walked similar paths. This collective experience not only helps ease our personal suffering by knowing we are not alone but also facilitates empathy, understanding, and a potential to help others navigating similar circumstances. Embracing the complete human experience, with its highs and lows, shapes a more compassionate and genuine legacy.

Integrating Mindfulness Practices for Daily Aliveness

The conversation takes a practical turn as Kate shares her experiences with walking meditation, a practice learned at Plum Village, the monastery of Thich Nhat Hanh. This type of meditation grounds you in the present, breathes life into routine chores, and helps connect with the natural world around you.

“…walking meditation, you just walk, and you feel your feet on the ground, and you look at the sky, and you feel the air on your skin, and you're just so deep in the present moment.” — Kate Manser

She also introduces the “deathbed gut check” — a decision-making tool that helps break through life's indecision by imagining choices from the perspective of your dying moments. This mental exercise peels away the superficial layers of daily worries, revealing what truly holds meaning in life.

“…remembering that I'll be dead soon is the best thing I have ever found to help me make the tough choices in life.” — Steve Jobs

Mindfulness Walking Meditation

These tools are not only meant for large life decisions but can also transform the mundane, instilling a sense of aliveness in every action.

Mindfulness, walking meditation, equip us to embrace mortality positively. By periodically reminding ourselves of our finite existence, we're more likely to appreciate the nuances of life, love more deeply, and live with intention.

The dialogue between Myrna and Kate Manser explores the depth and breadth of living with mortality in mind. It is evident that the, awareness of death, can be not only a philosophy but a practical, daily influence on how we choose to conduct our lives. By valuing our fleeting moments, embracing our trials, and cultivating mindfulness in our routine, we edge closer to living authentically and passionately — essentially, living as if we might die tomorrow.

The intertwining threads of mortality, awakening, pain, purpose, and mindfulness offer a tapestry of insights that encourage readers to reassess their approach to life. Rather than shying away from the thought of death, we lean into it, allowing it to highlight and prioritize the truly important aspects of our existence. This approach doesn't just change how we live; it transforms how we engage with the world and consequently, how we leave it when our time comes.

How To Face Your Fear of Death

Homecare Best Dementia Care For Patients

If you have dementia then there are certain, dementia care, needs when, dementia, presents itself because it goes until death. Let's say that my mom or someone I'm responsible for starts exhibiting, symptoms of dementia.  How do I decide on whether to put them in a, nursing home, or to get, home care?

Listen to the full podcast interview here:

My guest today is MERRILY ORSINI, Pres/CEO of Corecubed, is considered a thought leader in the healthcare at home industry and is involved in numerous organizations, providing insight and advice. Merrily is a leader in the Help Choose Home initiative, podcast creator and host. She focuses on educating how and when to choose healthcare at home. Orsini won a Lifetime Achievement in Business Award at the 2017 Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Orsini’s business ownership began with a geriatric care managed in-home care agency, a venture that garnered her the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1996

Myrna – Tell us your journey into your first geriatric care managed in home care agency.  Was it because you had a, dementia, parent who needed help?

Introduction to Home Care

Merrily – I sort of fell into it.  I have a master's in social work and an interest in helping people. I was in a personal situation where I needed to make more money.  So, I decided to become an entrepreneur and start my own Business.  Soon after I opened the doors of that business, I got a request from a friend of mine to provide what at that time we called a babysitting service for one of her clients whose wife had senile, dementia.

That began was a lifelong commitment for me to provide care for anyone who is suffering from, Alzheimer's.  We progressed with my first patient  from her early stages of, Alzheimer's dementia, through end stage.

We ended up caring for lots of other people with lots of other issues but the issue of, dementia, is probably the most frightening and the hardest care. I stayed in the, home care, space directly providing, nursing care, services from 1981 to 1998.

Myrna – I don't have any personal experience with this, in my family but there's a lot of movies out there that address the subject of, Alzheimer’s disease. The most famous is the movie the Notebook.

When I started, menopause, I personally started forgetting things and I was very afraid of that it was the start of, Alzheimer’s disease. But I was reassured by my doctor that if there is no history of, dementia, in my family then there is a good chance that I would not get, Alzheimer’s disease.

 Dementia Care for patients?

Merrily – my business provides support to the industry.  I'm not in the direct provision of, home care, anymore.  The thing about, dementia, is that it's not a one-size-fits-all disease. It also manifests itself differently in different people.  Some people become very calm, quiet and reserved and other people become aggressive.

The disease progresses at different times,  it is a debilitating disease if you have an, Alzheimer’s,  type, dementia, or some of the other kinds of, dementia, it's debilitating and it gets worse.

For instance you mentioned, menopause, there are several things that do cause something that looks like, dementia.  For instance, medication mismanagement.  I had a client one time who was severely malnourished, and that malnourishment actually translated itself into, dementia.

The question of, dementia care, it is again it's not a one-size-fits-all because someone who has a, dementia, needs a totally different kind of care than someone who has a frailty or a disease. It's two totally different kinds of care and it's also takes different kinds of caregivers.

Why Home Care is the best  Dementia Care for Patients.

There's different ways that you actually can talk to someone or be around someone with, Alzheimer’s, and there's a handful of generic kinds of rules for, dementia care; but the biggest one is this. It is hard for families is when someone starts forgetting and they actually have, dementia.

That's irreversible and it's going to get worse. the worst thing you can do is try to orient them to right now, because they're not there.  They're not mentally in the present and it's very scary for someone with the, dementia, to think that they're somewhere else and then have someone try to orient them today.

It’s like waking up in a dream and you know you you're dreaming you're someplace and if someone said you're not there it would be scary. The, dementia, patient  turns against them, because they quit trusting them.

They quit trusting them because the person is trying to orient them back to reality.

Dementia Test

The mini mental status test is about five questions:

  • It starts off with “what day is today”
  • Who's the president of the United States
  • Ask them to make you a cup of tea because that requires is sequential steps.
  • Can they still dress themselves or take care of themselves. Oftentimes not because they don't remember.  Sometimes people with, dementia, take all their clothes off and run out into the yard.

So many of the normal activities of daily living processes that you that you would not lose unless you had, dementia.

Ways to prevent Alzheimer’s type dementia

If you have a healthy lifestyle and by that I mean eating well, exercising and getting plenty of sleep. All of those things can help you prevent that onset of, dementia, but if you actually have an, Alzheimer’s,  type, dementia, no matter what you do it is going to eventually come.

Keeping your mind active is the other way to prevent the onset of, dementia. We're creatures of habit so if you brush your teeth with your right hand, try brushing your teeth with your left hand.  Simple things like that.

Learning a foreign language that's one of the most amazing things you can do because it uses parts of your brain that you don't normally use.

So if you've done crossword puzzles your whole life and you think by continuing to do crossword puzzles you're going to somehow keep dementia at bay, that's not true.  You need to do something different like learn how to dance.  Do something that involves your body and your mind, that is different than anything that you've ever done before.

Is  Alzheimer’s dementia different from just dementia?

You characterize, Alzheimer’s dementia, from just, dementia, can you give us what the difference is?

Merrily – There are all different kinds of, dementia.  Alzheimer's, is what we most hear about; but it is a specific disease that has some specific characteristics.

There are other types of, dementia.

  • Lewy Body dementia which is what Robin Williams had
  • There’s frontal-temporal dementia.
  • Alcohol related dementia that comes from overusing alcohol
  • Vascular Dementia
  • Mixed dementia and that is a combination of Alzheimer’s dementia and Vascular dementia.

Home Care for Dementia patients

If you have, dementia, then there are certain, nursing care, needs when, dementia, presents itself because it goes until death.

Let's say that my mom or someone I'm responsible for starts exhibiting symptoms of, dementia.  How do I decide on whether to put them in a nursing home or to get, home care?

There is no universal long-term care program for people in America, we have an overly complicated, home care, system.  Some of it funded by the government and some of it paid for privately, so it really depends on what your financial resources are and what your support system is.

Right now very few people want to go into a congregant, nursing home, setting because of the exposure. You look at the deaths in America where 40 percent or more happen in congregate, nursing home, care settings from COVID 19.

So, if you have a loved one with, dementia, the first thing to do is go somewhere where you can get a real good screening.  I would recommend a geriatric evaluation and treatment program through a teaching university.

The next step after they say you do have a progressive disease, is to really look at time frame, because a lot of people can stay at home with just a little bit of care as long as there, dementia, is not progressed to the point where they are endangering themselves.

Staying at home is probably the best place because people who have, dementia, like familiar surroundings and they also like a routine.

But the question between, home care, or, nursing home, really comes down to cost and support.

Transforming Mental Garbage into Beautiful Flowers

Just as, beautiful flowers, can emerge from compost, our minds have the power to transform negative emotions and thoughts into positivity. However, the first step towards this transformation is recognizing and acknowledging the, mental garbage, that exists within us. Depression, anger, jealousy, unforgiveness, and greed are all examples of this, mental garbage. When we hold onto these, negative emotions, they can strangle the vibrancy of our thoughts and hinder our, personal growth.

Coach Myrna emphasizes that we can recognize our, mental garbage, by how it makes us feel. Garbage is stinky and dirty, and when our minds are filled with negative thoughts and emotions, people respond to us in the same way they respond to garbage. Therefore, it is crucial to identify and acknowledge these, negative emotions, as the first step towards transformation.

Cultivating the Soil: Creating a Fertile Ground for Beautiful Flowers

Just as a gardener tends to the soil to nurture plant growth, we can cultivate our minds through mindfulness and self-reflection. By embracing practices such as meditation, mindfulness exercises, and journaling, we create a fertile ground for, beautiful flowers, to take root. This mental composting lays the foundation for, personal growth, resilience, and emotional well-being.

Coach Myrna compares cultivating the soil of our minds to giving it sunshine, water, and nutrients. We need to replace, negative thoughts, with positive ones, just as we replace weeds with, beautiful flowers, in a garden. Depression cannot flourish in the presence of gratitude, so by transforming our, negative thoughts, with positive ones, we create a fertile ground for positivity to grow.

The Alchemy of Forgiveness: Turning Weight into Flowers

Unforgiveness is a heavy burden that weighs us down and acts as dense material in the compost of our minds. However, through the alchemy of forgiveness, we can transform this weight into the flowers of compassion and liberation. Forgiving others and ourselves can be a catalyst for personal metamorphosis.

Coach Myrna uses the metaphor of alchemy, the transformation of lead into gold, to illustrate the power of forgiveness. Just as alchemy turns something undesirable into something valuable, forgiveness can turn the weight of unforgiveness into compassion and liberation. By letting go of grudges and resentments, we create space for, personal growth, and the blooming of our true selves.

Seeds of Gratitude: Nurturing the Garden of Positivity

Gratitude is like planting seeds in the fertile soil of our minds. By nurturing our minds with gratitude, we can create a garden flourishing with positivity. Cultivating an attitude of gratitude and appreciating the small joys of life can lead to a radiant landscape of resilience and joy.

Coach Myrna emphasizes the importance of being grateful for even the smallest things in life. From the breath we take, to the food we eat, there is always something to be grateful for. By planting seeds of gratitude, we overshadow the, mental garbage, and allow the, beautiful flowers,  of positivity to bloom. Gratitude becomes the water that nourishes our garden, allowing it to flourish with joy and resilience.

Trimming Negativity: Creating Space for Self-Confidence and Contentment

Just as a skilled gardener prunes away unwanted branches and weeds, we can trim the negativity of jealousy, envy, and other negative thoughts. By consciously choosing to focus on our own growth rather than comparing ourselves to others, we make space for the, beautiful flowers, of self-confidence and contentment.

Coach Myrna encourages us to recognize these, negative emotions, and consciously choose to let them go. By pruning away these thoughts, we create space for self-confidence and contentment to flourish. Instead of being consumed by jealousy and envy, we can focus on our own, personal growth, and celebrate the successes of others.

Key Takeaways

  • Self-Love Beyond Beauty Standards: Embracing one's uniqueness and rejecting society's narrow definitions of beauty is key to personal fulfillment.
  • Growing Social Media Influence Authentically: Consistent, high-quality content, collaboration, and being true to one's brand are crucial for gaining followers.
  • Dealing with Negativity: Maintaining self-esteem in the face of criticism involves a mix of ignoring negativity, engaging constructively, or blocking unhelpful feedback.

Embracing Self Love Beyond Social Beauty standards

In the world of fashion and beauty, adhering to traditional standards often prescribes a narrow path to success. But as Isabelle Miller poignantly highlights, finding prosperity as a model while standing only five feet one inch tall challenges the preconceived notions of the industry's, beauty standards. Echoing this sentiment, Miller states, “I am who I am and I love it. I refuse to accept rotten fruits in my basket.” Her journey as one of the, social media girls,  emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance and the rejection of societal pressures that seek to dictate one's self-worth by their, beauty standards.

Through Miller's narrative, we uncover the reflection of, self love, as an act of resistance—a belief that true beauty isn't a metric but an essence that defies standardization. This perspective compels us to rethink how we perceive and value ourselves in a world that often favors uniformity over individuality.

How To Make Money Using The Laws Of Attraction

How to make money, using the laws of attraction. She shows you how to change your money blueprint, recondition your mind for automatic abundance, and use Spiritual Laws of Attraction to create real world success.

Pragito – It didn't start off so great. I could tell you I had a very challenging childhood. I had a cruel mother and my father didn’t protect me. I just adored my father; but he was not in his power. He didn't stand up for himself and didn't stand up for me, so basically I got trodden all over by my mother. I was actually terrified of her; so what I did to cope was to shut down my heart and live in my head.

I had a lot of fear, I had a lot of anger and pain in my heart. I realized even as a young child that I was just going to have to sort of stick it out so to speak until I got old enough to do something about it.

In my early 20s, I heard about this Zen master called Osho in India. He had a wide range of, meditation techniques, including expressive, meditation. I started doing these, meditations, because I really needed to learn, how to make money, and release all those turbulent emotions that I'd stuffed down.

I found my creativity, love and the wisdom that we all have within us. It was hugely successful to say the least that I found those, meditations.

Myrna – How many years did that take you to release all the hurt?

Pragito – Well, it was a process.

It was just an unbelievable transformation that happened to me. I saw how it was possible for me, so I trained to teach all these, meditations, to others as well.  I realized I could create a business and help others use the, law of attraction money, and that’s become my mission.

Hypnotherapy vs Meditation

Myrna – What exactly is, hypnotherapy, and how is it different from, meditation?

Pragito – Well, what I do with the, hypnotherapy, is I take people on a guided journey deep into their subconscious mind (because that is where the solutions to the problem lay).

Now, if we take, money, let's say someone is always broke or use his/her credit cards and pay off the credit card; but then goes back in the same cycle. That was me actually. I would pay off the credit card and then it'd be back on the credit cards again. Always getting to the same place like an inner ceiling and not being able to get past that.

What we can do in the, hypnotherapy, session  is go to the root of the problem and find out what is going on with their, law of attraction money, what they  learned about, money as a child.

Myrna – My last interview, we discussed, money blocks. I don't want to do too much into that because I had a whole episode on, money blocks; but would that be considered another, money block, or is there a different word for this particular blueprint like, law of attraction money?

Using Hypnotherapy to remove Money Blocks

Pragito – The, money block, is what's blocking you from making money. The blueprint is your beliefs and what's guiding you. Like a blueprint for a construction project,   you're told this is the way life is and you believe it because that's what you're told.

I have to tell you something very interesting. I've been doing, hypnotherapy, for over 23 years. It's not about, making money, at all. It's about love. It's about deserving,  a lot of us believe I am not deserving, I am not worthy. Another way, ‘I'm not enough, I don't deserve wealth.

Myrna – I agree, Michelle Obama in her book – “Becoming”,  talked about not being enough  a lot. Even when she was first lady and even when she was a lawyer and successful; because she started off in the poor parts of Chicago,  she felt she wasn't enough and she felt that she didn't deserve it.

As a hypnotherapist, what kind of work do you do to remove that, money block, blueprint and activate the, law of attraction money?

https://myhelps.us/accelerate-soul-journey-clear-money-blocks/

Pragito – Your, money, blueprint is sometimes formed in the womb! The child can learn, how to make money, from their mother. The mother doesn't want it or maybe the father doesn't want it, because it's all energy. We're all transmitting energy all the time and then the child arrives.  So I take my clients into a more relaxed state; but not going out.  They're still present and I ask the wisdom of their body, the wisdom of their heart and their higher self to bring forward for us the, money block.

Pragito – The good thing about, hypnotherapy, is because you're working at the root, when we've healed everything, it never ever comes back.

Myrna – Why is it important for an entrepreneur to understand how the,  Law of Attraction money, works and to invest in themselves? Do they have to start by being in a, hypnotherapy, session for them to understand their, money,  blueprint?

Pragito – Well it's just that the, hypnotherapy, can help to make it all go quicker. That's what the, hypnotherapy, can help with; but the place to start is with the awareness. It's a three-step process.

  1. The first step is “Ask for what you want”. However, you have to be clear, you need clarity on what you want.
  2. Then you have to focus on what you want and activate the, law of attraction money. You have to focus on it and let people know you want it. Get pictures of what you want. One tip I give is, Do not ask for, money, because the universe doesn't really understand what you mean by, money. Do you want a bag of, money, to fall on your head one day? Is that what you want? It’s much more powerful to ask what you want the, money, to buy. For instance,  I want a Lexus car or I want to go on a cruise.
  3. Step 3 is “allowing” This is the most difficult step and it's a step where most people fall down. You have to allow what you want to come to you. This is where the, meditation, is helpful. One of the, meditation techniques I teach with, meditation, is learning to witness the mind. You learn to misidentify from the mind, because the thoughts of the mind actually are not real. They are like shadows, like when you walk down the street on a sunny day and you can see your shadow, that's what thoughts are. They're like shadows, they are not real and they're often not true. The mind says things like “you can never have a Lexus, you’re broke.”

Myrna – That reminded me I used to work with automatic negative thoughts and when I would hear the mind telling me something, I would talk back to it, because it keeps repeating all the time and then you talk back to it – I would say you better stop.

Pragito – Yes that's good, that's right. You better cut that out.

Good Vibes activate the, Law of Attraction Money

If we look at the, Law of Attraction money, on a scale of one to ten, one being our most negative vibes and ten being our most positive vibe,  All the, law of attraction money, does is it matches. It's a one trick pony, that's all. It doesn't care who you are or what you want. If you're some famous Hollywood actor or a rickshaw driver in Calcutta, it doesn't care.

All it does is match your energy. We really need to pay attention to our emotional state which is in the subconscious. With 95% of our thoughts being in the subconscious, if we transmit anger, guess what we get back, anger. If we're transmitting fear, that’s what we get back. So we have to pay attention to our vibes. Our only job is to keep our vibes positive.

There are many ways to do that and one of my favorite ways is the laughter, meditation. Well I do that a lot. That’s good and fantastic, because laughter really helps to keep your high vibes and then you're in your positive energy which is the, law of attraction money, state. At this point, your possibility of attracting, money,  is very high.

Whereas when you're in a negative state, of course it becomes very low. The most important thing is to be aware of your emotional state. We want to be aware of the thoughts of the mind; but that's only about five percent of it. It's the emotional state that is the most powerful and so here's another tip if you really want something and you need, money, to buy.

How to Ask for the Money you want

Let's say you've got this really dinged up old car to take your kids to school and you need a decent car. So you say to the universe “look I really need a good car and you say it with a lot of emotion and with a lot of energy.  “I really need a really good car”. Your chances of getting what you want go up astronomically when you put emotion behind it.

But if you just say “well I’d like to have a Lexus,  it's on  my list but I don’t care. There's no real emotion behind it, then you're not going to get a Lexus. You might still attract it, but you won't get it as quickly as someone who's very passionate about what they want and puts a lot of feeling into asking for it.

Meditation, for Peace, Prosperity and Passion

Myrna – Let's talk about your book now. Your book is called “Lunchtime Enlightenment: Expressive Meditations for Manifesting Peace, Prosperity and Passion.” Now, tell us about your book. Is it working under the same foundations that we're talking about? We started with, meditation, and, hypnotherapy, then talked about the, law of attraction money, and prosperity.

Pragito – The, meditations, are for manifesting peace, prosperity and passion. Meditation, is being in the present moment and, meditation techniques, are important. The, meditation techniques, are there to help us and remind us to be in the present moment. Why do we want to be in the present moment? Because first of all we're aware of our feeling state, the feelings are always in the present moment and when we have that present moment awareness, we have the power of choice.

We can choose.  If we find our vibes are down, then we could say, I need to watch a funny video or comedy’.  ‘I need to get my vibes up right now, etc. That awareness gives you that choice. Let's say for example we feel really angry towards somebody, so it's not a good idea to talk to somebody when you're angry or when you feel angry with them.

In the book, I give suggestions for what you can do when you feel angry. There are two techniques in particular where you can dump your anger out in the sacred context of a, meditation technique, in the first stage.  Then in the second stage, you sit in silence and you find it much easier to sit in silence when you've let the lid off the pressure cooker. So, to speak and get rid of a lot of emotional turmoil, it's very easy to drop down. You will find inner peace in calm, your inner wisdom, love, creativity and all these good things.

Meditation Techniques  to Calm Anger

From that place you can decide what to do about this irritating person that's annoyed you. Do you need to talk to them? If you do need to talk to them, then you talk to them from that place of peace and calm, because that will help them become calm and peaceful; because normally they would be reacting to your energy. Then, the whole thing is just a big mess; but when you take responsibility that you feel angry and that it's not going to help to either dump your anger on somebody else or stuff it down. You do the, meditation technique, you're nice, calm and very likely to come up with a creative way to handle the situation.

That is perfect for marriages because a lot of people in intimate relationships blow up and it doesn't ever go anywhere.

Myrna – Tell our listening audience how they can get a copy of your book. Also, tell them how they can reach you to do any of your, hypnotherapy, sessions coaching and things like that because I'm pretty sure you get results.

Pragito – The book is on Amazon. Actually this book was just released in August and it's already a number one bestseller.

Myrna – Good for you, congratulations.

Pragito – Thank you. To find me, you go to my website www.discovermeditation.com/contact you can sign up for my laughing Buddhist Network newsletter and you get two free Gifts.

A self confidence story

I heard this story and I want to share with you today to illustrate self confidence and how you see yourself.

Jim worked at a radio station all his life. He was a well-known and famous radio show host. All of his friends and colleges knew him by one feature: if he’s on-air, he is always wearing a suit and a tie. They laughed at him: ‘No one ever sees you, why do you dress like that?’, but he always turned that into a joke.

One day Jim was invited to appear on the TV. There was a show dedicated to the oldest radio employees. For the first time the people, who only knew him by his voice, would see him. Before the recording of the show, the director came to Jim and asked:

– Usually you arrive on time, but today you are 10 minutes late. It’s not horrible, but I’m still interested, why?

– You see, – Jim answered, – at the last moment when I was already dressed up, I noticed that I don’t have new socks. For the first time I was invited to the television, and I thought that simply wearing clean socks is not enough. It needs to be in new socks. So, I needed to go to the store for socks.

– But why do you need new socks? – The director was surprised. – You could have come without the socks, because we will be filming you only in close-up, over the waist.

– You see, to be spotless on-air, I need to feel myself spotless in everything, starting with the shirt and finishing with the pen in my pocket. And if my socks have holes in them, or my shoes are dirty, I’m not spotless anymore.

Self confidence is an internal feeling

Nobody could tell that Jim’s socks had holes in them, but he could and that meant he no longer had confidence in himself.

Maybe his internal dialogue went something like this

You call yourself spotless that’s a joke you are no better than the bum on the street with holes in your socks.

Self-confidence comes from trusting your abilities: For example, I know that I will pass this test.

Confidence is also trusting how you look. Tell yourself “When I walk into a room people notice me because I am fine.”

Self-confidence does not come from flattery or meaningless compliments because when you don’t get them, you lose confidence in yourself and the negative voices in your head start running on repeat.

How to be confident: Be yourself

How to be confident, the first step is having the courage to be you. This means that you understand that you are not good at everything and the things you are not good at, you get help with. For example, you are good at seeing the vision but you are not good with the details; so you hire an assistant to help you with the details.  You are still the captain of the ship, you are the master of your soul don’t let anyone else take the wheel because you lose confidence. Be confident that you are going in the right direction.

How to build confidence and self esteem: Self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-image all fall in the same bundle—about feeling good about yourself, feeling more like a winner than a loser. What gets in the way? Generally, a cause and a result: The cause is that you learned to be too self-critical, likely by having critical and unsupportive people around you. You never give yourself a break; even the smallest mistake—the burned biscuits—is another demerit and sign of your incompetence. Your expectations are impossibly high, and everything—even the biscuits—is what you’re overall competence is measured by.

Conclusion

How to be confident is always have the courage to be you. Embrace your strengths and accept your weaknesses. There is no one like you, so you better have the confidence to love yourself.

In today's interconnected world, fame is a double-edged sword that cuts through the fabric of our society. On one hand, it opens doors to opportunities, recognition, and influence. On the other, it exposes individuals to scrutiny, relentless public opinion, and the ever-watchful eye of the media. Understanding the dual nature of fame is essential for those who find themselves in the spotlight or aspire to reach those heights.

**The Scrutiny Under the Spotlight:**

As individuals ascend to fame, the spotlight not only illuminates their achievements but also magnifies their flaws. Every action, statement, or decision is dissected and analyzed by the public and the media. This level of scrutiny can lead to heightened stress, anxiety, and sometimes even a, loss of privacy. It's crucial to be prepared for the inevitable judgment that accompanies the spotlight and to develop coping mechanisms to navigate the pressures that fame imposes.

**Maintaining Authenticity in a Performative World:**

One of the challenges of fame is the pressure to conform to, societal expectations, or adopt a curated public persona. It's essential to strike a balance between authenticity and the demands of public image. Embracing one's true self, vulnerabilities and all, can create a genuine connection with the audience, fostering a more sustainable and meaningful form of fame.

**The Responsibility of Influence:**

Fame comes with a responsibility to use one's influence for positive change. Those in the public eye have the power to shape opinions, raise awareness, and contribute to important conversations. Understanding the dual nature of fame involves recognizing the potential impact on a larger scale and using it as a force for good.

**Navigating the Peaks and Valleys:**

The journey of fame is a rollercoaster with highs and lows. From the thrill of success to the challenges of criticism, individuals must learn to navigate both ends of the spectrum. Developing resilience and a strong support system is crucial for maintaining mental and emotional well-being throughout the ups and downs.
In conclusion, fame is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon. Understanding its dual nature is vital for anyone seeking recognition in the public eye. By embracing authenticity, acknowledging the responsibilities that come with influence, and developing resilience, individuals can navigate the spotlight with grace and purpose.
