The Impact of Environmental Toxins on Fertility

Dr. O’Bryan emphasizes that chronic inflammatory diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, heart disease, and diabetes, are largely caused by inflammation. Inflammation occurs when our immune system fights against toxins in our body. Surprisingly, many people are unaware that the foods they eat can contribute to inflammation, even if they don’t experience immediate digestive symptoms.

For example, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that women with infertility problems who consumed higher amounts of fruits and vegetables had a higher likelihood of unsuccessful implantation and more miscarriages and stillbirths. However, when these women consumed organic fruits and vegetables, the outcomes were significantly better. This highlights the importance of choosing organic produce to minimize exposure to harmful chemicals.

Dr Obryan’s Infertility Story

Dr O’Bryan what inspired you to focus on, environmental toxins?

I was an intern in my education in Chicago and my ex and I could not get pregnant. So I called the seven most famous holistic doctors I’d ever heard of and asked them all what do you do for infertility.  They all told me what they do and I put a program together and we were pregnant in six weeks.  My neighbors in married housing had been through artificial insemination and nothing had worked and they asked if I’d work with them.

I said well you know I don’t really know what I’m doing but I don’t think it’ll hurt you. They were pregnant in three months so we’re now four months pregnant and just hot to trot to tell the world of what we were learning. Our friends in Chicago had a sister who had two miscarriages that lived in Wisconsin and she would drive down and ask please can I talk to you.  So people started coming to see me and and I was treating people out of my dormatory room.

I realize is that there’s not much in medicine that’s all or every, but this was every couple that had any infertility problems with hormones, reproductive issues, recurrent miscarriages, premature ejaculations, low testosterone, low progesterone, it didn’t matter every couple had as a contributing component to their problem.

Foods that cause inflammation and infertility

They were eating foods that they didn’t know were a problem for them causing inflammation.  Because we think if we eat something and if we don’t feel bad after we eat it it’s okay for us; but we know in the science the ratio is 8 to one.  For every one person that gets, gut symptoms, with a problem with wheat for example there are eight people that don’t they get brain symptoms or skin symptoms.

They’ve got psoriasis or they’ve got acne or they’ve got rheumatoid arthritis or they’ve got thyroid disease, they don’t get gut symptoms so if you think that you have to have gut symptoms before you suspect of food is not good for you.

Detoxing Your Body and Home

To reduce your exposure to environmental toxins, Dr. O’Bryan recommends taking small steps towards detoxing your body and home. One of the most crucial steps is to increase your water intake. Dehydration can hinder your body’s ability to flush out toxins, so aim to drink a third of an ounce of water per pound of body weight each day. This simple habit can have a significant impact on your overall health.

Additionally, consider incorporating houseplants into your home. NASA studies have shown that certain houseplants can absorb up to 74% of toxins in the air. By placing houseplants in various rooms, you can improve the air quality and reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals.

Another important aspect of detoxing is choosing non-toxic household products. Many cleaning supplies, cosmetics, and personal care products contain chemicals that can be harmful to your health. Look for organic alternatives and avoid products that contain phthalates, parabens, and other toxic ingredients.

Phthalates are a group of chemicals used to make plastics more durable and as solvents and stabilizers in cosmetics and other products. They are also known as “plasticizers”. Phthalates are found in hundreds of products, including lubricating oils.

The Role of Probiotics in Gut Health and Brain Health

Tina Anderson, Founder of Just Thrive stops by the show to talk about the role of probiotics in gut health and brain health. Probiotics is like the gardener, its job is to keep the good plants (good bacteria) and get rid of the weeds (bad bacteria). Just Thrive probiotics does this better than any other products on the market because our probiotics arrive alive in the intestine.

The difference with Just Thrive probiotics is that they have this endospore shell around them and that’s why we call them spore-based probiotics. This gives them the ability to get through that stomach acid, that gastric system alive.  It is not until they hit the intestines, that the endospore shell comes off and that is when they go into their live vegetative cell state to promote gut and brain health.

Our product Just Calm  is helping communication between the gut and the brain and helping those external stressors that we’re faced with by lowering our cortisol levels.

Bio

Tina Anderson’s journey into the world of health had a unique start and some unusual turns. She began her career as a trial lawyer who specialized in settling cases by bringing both sides together, a personal passion of hers. Once her second child arrived, Tina left that high-stress job behind so she could focus on her family.

Luckily, she was still able to use her considerable legal skills to point her career in a new direction as the in-house counsel for a family pharmaceutical company. But what Tina saw there made her change direction again. Frustrated by the many abuses in the pharmaceutical industry,

Tina turned toward the field of natural health, and found her life’s work. She channeled her energy into learning all she could about disease prevention and good health maintenance. That led her to discover the importance of gut health and how connected and crucial it is for overall health and wellness. To share her discovery with the world, Tina along with her husband created a unique supplement that contains the superior probiotic strains of renowned researcher Dr. Simon Cutting. By promoting gut health and probiotics, Tina shares her passion for wellness, helping others live their best physical and emotional lives.

How Just Thrive got started

Tina:  I had a very interesting journey. I was I started out in litigation but I wasn’t fulfilled in my career. And so, I decided to leave that behind and go into a family pharmaceutical business and had a much better work life balance with my kids. I was able to walk them to school and have more time for prayer, meditation, all of those things. My husband started this company together, we were able to license, probiotic strains, from London University, Dr. Simon a cutting edge world renowned probiotic expert.

And we were able to go into a field that was so impactful, and it was actually impacting health and society and it was really exciting. We knew when you took care of your gut, that everything else starts to fall into place. There was so much research coming out of the Human Microbiome Project was launched by the National Institutes of Health told us more about the gut than we ever knew before, and really told us that the gut is responsible for virtually every aspect of our overall health.

It’s hard to find any disease claim that’s not associated with some imbalance in our gut health. Very few probiotics on the market, were doing what they needed to do, they were not making that journey to the intestines alive so, we decided to go ahead and launch this product to fill the gap in the market.

What is the Gut Microbiome

Myrna: Can we step back a little bit and talk about the gut, microbiome, and the blood brain barrier. I know that there are certain things that pass through your gut and cause a whole bunch of disease.  What are, probiotics, and how do they help us in the gut?

Tina: It’s great to start with the fundamentals. Our, microbiome, is the totality of organisms that make up the gut. So, we’ve got, bacteria, viruses, fungi, you know, parasites, all these different things like make up our the totality of our microbiome. So, all of these microorganisms most of which are bacteria, we are 10 times more bacteria than we are human. We think bacteria is bad, but bacteria is so incredibly beneficial to us, so supportive of our health and our organs.

Less than 1% of bacteria is actually bad.  And so, when we just realized that we have to support our microbiome, in our gut and not kill it off. Constipation, diarrhea, gas and bloating, these are all signs that you have some imbalance going on in your, gut microbiome. But what people are just starting to understand is that it also dictates your, brain health.

  • It dictates your mood, how you’re feeling,
  • your sleep,
  • it’s dictating your hormone health,
  • it’s dictating autoimmune issues, your immune system 80% of our immune system is found in our gut.
Transform Your Mind Amazon
Transform Your Mind Amazon

Gut bacteria and leaky gut

Our, gut bacteria, sends signals to our immune cells and tells them okay, there’s something going on, you need to start fighting this infection.  So, it’s really important that we understand that our immune system would cease to function if we don’t have the, gut microbiome, sending signals to our, immune cells.  If you have an, autoimmune disease, it’s pretty much guaranteed you have imbalance in your gut, you have a, leaky gut.

We have a double-blind human clinical trial on, leaky gut, that is so profound.  It’s important for everybody to understand that it is our gut is dictating all aspects of our overall health. And there is something called the, vagus nerve, that is sends signals from the gut to the brain, and then sends signals from the brain back down to the gut. We all know that feeling you’re excited about something and you have butterflies in your stomach, that’s the gut brain connection.

We know when we get nervous, you have to go to the bathroom. Same thing the brain is sending signals down to the gut. But what we’re also starting to understand is now the gut is sending signals to the brain. So, if you have a healthy balanced, microbiome, they send more calming signals to it. The opposite is also true, if you have an imbalanced gut, it sends signals to your brain that are not so healthy.

Brain health and gut health

Understand that it is foundational for our health to focus on our gut. It is where we start. People take multivitamins and they take vitamin C and vitamin D, and those are all important things to be taking. But we need to focus on our, gut health, before we do anything else. And unfortunately, this world we live in is so offensive to the bacteria, we are 10 times more bacterial cells, but we use hand sanitizers and antibacterial soaps to kill off our bacteria.

When you go into the doctor and they say, you have an, autoimmune disease, you need to figure out what it is that’s causing this imbalance and this issue and getting to the root cause of it.  So, probiotics,  need to arrive alive in the intestines and make the garden better. So, if you kind of compare your intestinal tract to a garden, you get the weeds which are the bad bacteria and then you have the good plants that are the good bacteria in your gut.

So, the idea is to get those, probiotic strains, into the intestines. The problem with a lot of, probiotics, on the market the vast majority of, probiotics, that are out there have difficulty getting through your stomach acid. That stomach acid is meant to be the gastric barrier. It’s meant to keep out things that we don’t want in there. So as a result, most, probiotic strains, really have difficulty getting into the intestines and so they’re dying by the time they get to the intestines.

And so that was a big problem that we identified and solved with our, Just Thrive probiotics.  So, that’s the point of a, probiotic, to make the ecosystem in your gut better and to make it more balanced.  We don’t necessarily want to get rid of all the bad bacteria. We just want a better balance in the gut of our good and bad bacteria.

Just Thrive spore-based probiotics

The difference with, Just Thrive probiotics, is that they have this endospore shell around it and that’s why we call them, spore-based probiotics, and they have the ability to get through that stomach acid that gastric system alive.  And it is not until they hit the intestines, that endospore shell comes off and that is when they go into their live vegetative cell state.

Myrna: I understand that because I am taking, Just Thrive probiotics, and I see the difference.  I’m taking the, Just Thrive probiotics, and, Just Calm.

Tina: It is helping get rid of the weeds in the garden. It’s helping take those plants that have been stepped down and trampled on and help them thrive and flourish in your gut. And that’s why people see such profound results whether it’s, becoming more regular, whether it’s less gas and bloating, whether it’s better mood, better sleep or I’m able to manage my weight better because my gut bacteria is dictating all of those things.

Myrna: Well, yeah, I have noticed that I’m definitely more regular. What are your newest products? What is the difference between probiotics and prebiotics?  Tell us about the newest, Just Thrive, product, Just Calm.

Tina: Yeah, so this is exciting. You know, one of our big core competencies in our company is that we do not produce anything unless it is missing or needed in the market. So, we do not want supplements like vitamin C and vitamin D. Those are all really important nutrients. But there’s lots of companies out there doing that great. We are only launching products that are truly missing and needed and researched in the market. So, we just discovered this, probiotic strain.

Transform Your Mind Podcast Player FM
Transform Your Mind Podcast Player FM

Phychobiotic the gut friendly probiotic

It is called, psychobiotic. Psychobiotic, is basically gut friendly probiotic that is supporting the gut brain access. So, it’s further supporting that communication between the gut and the brain. And so, we know that the gut this is important. I think people are just starting to understand this 90% of our serotonin, which is our happy hormone is produced in our gut for all these years. I feel like psychiatrists have had their hands tied by you know, prescribing, you know, anti-anxiety meds.

90% of our serotonin is produced in our gut. Dopamine is produced in our gut, GABA, which is our calming hormone is produced in our gut. And yet, nobody is talking about that when it comes to, brain health. And so, probiotics, are supporting your serotonin production and your GABA and dopamine but the key with those, psycho biotic, that is found in our product, Just Calm, is that it’s actually supporting that, gut brain access.

So, it is helping bring down cortisol levels. We know that cortisol is really disruptive to our gut, it’s bringing up we’re in that fight or flight response all the time. The problem isn’t when you have a, leaky gut, that toxins from your gut seep into your bloodstream and they start to create this inflammatory response and you have this chronic low-grade inflammation, that sending signals up to your brain and so now you have inflammation in your brain. That is the one cause of problems with your, brain health.

Transform your Mind Podcast Index
Transform your Mind Podcast Index

Brain inflammation is caused by external stressors

The other cause of brain inflammation are external stressors. So, we get cut off by traffic, you’ve gotten into a fight with a loved one, whatever it might be that’s causing this stress that also causes this inflammation. So, we want to stop both of those things as much as possible or halt as much as possible. We want to get rid of that, leaky gut, and that’s what the probiotic is doing. And then those external stressors, we want to be able to manage them better. and by lowering our cortisol.  So, that’s what the, Just Calm, product is doing.

It is helping communication between the gut and the brain and helping those external stressors that we’re faced with. Intermittent fasting, is just another tool I have in my toolbox. We want to do meditation and deep breathing, whatever it is that calms you down. It’s really important whether even if it’s changing your lifestyle. There are studies that show that when you, intermittent fasting, it helps increase diversity in the microbiome.

So, the important thing in our gut is we want a diverse, microbiome. We just we don’t want one kind of good bacteria. We want lots of different kinds of good bacteria and we were born with a lot of diversity. And we know that, intermittent fasting, helps support diversity.  By starving some of those bacteria it helps them proliferate, which seems counterintuitive, but it’s been shown to actually help with supporting your, gut bacteria.

What are prebiotics

Prebiotics, is the fertilizer and the probiotic is like the gardener. The gardener is getting rid of the weeds and helping those plants come back to life. The, prebiotic, is the fertilizer for that garden, so it is feeding the good bacteria in your gut. To really to be defined as a, prebiotic, it needs to only target the beneficial bacteria. So, the good plants in the garden, but the problem is a lot of, prebiotics, it that the actually make a problem worse, by fertilizing the weeds as well as the good plants.

But if you look at our, prebiotic, it’s called a precision prebiotic.  We didn’t launch a prebiotic for a long time because we could not find prebiotic fibers that only targeted the beneficial bacteria. And so yeah, so our, prebiotic, is only fertilizing the good bacteria in the gut.

We have a product called gut fortified that is helping the mucosal barrier of our gut. We have a health coach on our team, that if anyone have any questions about which products to start with, especially if you have some severe gut dysbiosis and gut issues that you want to deal with, she can help you with a plan of what to do or which products to use.

But I always suggest that people start with a, probiotic, it is foundational for anything else you’re doing.  You’re eating all these really healthy foods, but if your gut is inflamed, it’s not absorbing nutrients. You’re taking all these other supplements but if your gut is inflamed, it’s not absorbing those nutrients. So, I always suggest people start with the probiotic.  It’s our number one selling product.  It’s important to stay on it for a couple of months to actually start to notice the difference.

The Crucial Role of an Active Lifestyle Against COVID-19

Wildly Alive coach Nichole Wurth shares how having an, active lifestyle, could help you fight, coronavirus COVID 19, and become BFF’s with your body.

Journey to an Active lifestyle.

I was raised on Hamburger Helper and mac and cheese.  I didn’t know the basics of nourishing your body or a healthy lifestyle.  That  was not something that was taught to me, so I got out of high school and I gained some weight.  I did what most women do.  I started dieting. I wouldn’t say that I had a big-time body image issues or self-esteem issues going into that whole experience; but after every diet  I started to realize it took out a chunk of my self-esteem.

So after years of dieting if you would have looked at my body you would have thought damn she’s got it going on she’s so fit she’s so healthy. I want her body, I want her, active lifestyle.   But in all reality even though I looked like I was living a, healthy lifestyle,  I was an absolute mess inside.

I had disordered eating and disordered exercising and I was so lost in trying to have a, active lifestyle, I didn’t even see it I was I was obsessed with what I was going to eat and what I couldn’t eat. I was strategizing with every bite.  It was strategy all the time.  I was still deeply unhappy because before living this, healthy lifestyle,  I blamed all my unhappiness and the reason why I don’t have a boyfriend, the reason why I don’t have a fulfilling job, or the reason why I don’t have …fill in the blank, was because of my body.

Podbean Transform your Mind Podcast

Podbean

A Healthy Lifestyle begins with Diet

It’s very common for women to blame everything on their body,  so now that I had lost the weight and I look fit and healthy and living a, healthy lifestyle, I no longer had anything to blame for my unhappiness.  So again even though you would look at me and you think wow she’s an inspiration,  honestly I was lost from disordered eating and disordered exercising.  Most people they don’t even see it, and they’re broken.  That’s how diet culture works.  Diet culture intentionally breaks you, breaks your trust with yourself, so then you need a diet all the time.

That’s how I was for years.  I didn’t trust myself without the guidelines, without the rules and other restrictions.  I went through that whole journey. I lost the weight and I was worse than I was before I started that journey.

I start moving into like exploring okay how can I find happiness and freedom and a, healthy lifestyle, at the same time because dieting does not get you happiness and freedom.  It feels very caged.  That’s the philosophy of the wildly alive coaching program. I started coming up with this idea that your body is a living, breathing, feeling thing just like a plant.  So if I went into my office every day and looked at my plants and said to them, you’re ugly and you’re not good enough and you need to try harder.  I would have sent negative energy to them right they would rebel and not thrive.

The Ketogenic Diet is good for a healthy lifestyle

I think that’s where most women are.  They look at their body as just this thing that’s hanging on them, that’s never right and will never be right, and they’re constantly abusing it.  If you want to call it abuse or not, it really is, because you probably would never talk to your best friend that way or even your enemy.  That is when I started really looking into instead of creating change from a place of shame, which diet culture teaches, if you just hate your body enough then you can change it shifting that to respect base change.  learning how to respect our body as we are changing and reshaping it. The Ketogenic Diet is the new popular diet plan.

Food plays a very important part in our body image and women in particular, maybe even men. Men drink, women eat! I’m not sure, but a lot of times if you have emotional problems it shows up in what you eat.  And yeah when you go to the gym, and you have a really nice body, that’s on the outside. You could still feel shame inside.

A lot of women could identify with, you’re overweight and you buckled down and lost the weight, they are now living a, healthy lifestyle, they go to the gym every day, they eat right and embrace,  healthy living,  so where is the reward. Where is the boyfriend or husband?

What is an Active Lifestyle?

I gained all  kinds of weight at the end of high school because I was in the industry and I was eating a lot of jalapeno, mayonnaise and French fries. It was like my favorite combination with  Big Mac.  The whole the whole world globally, we’re looking at the, coronavirus, and at, COVID-19, and everybody including all the health experts are now on talking about a, healthy lifestyle,  because what we’re all now acutely aware that if you have a healthy immune system then you can probably get over this, coronavirus, illness. My, active  lifestyle, programs started  before people became conscious of, healthy living.   A, healthy lifestyle, is  being wildly alive!

I wanted to create something like a like a bridge between the, covid-19, pandemic and, healthy living.  I’m telling my clients right now is first and foremost and this is the basis of wildly alive coaching,  is your mind is the most powerful muscle in your body and so just like with dieting.

And the constant feeling of stress, you have to change from the inside.

When I was dieting, I was constantly stressed, I was afraid of butter.  I was afraid of red meat and so on and so on. Even though according to my little calorie counting notebook, I was eating

all of the right things; because I was so stressed over the food, that I was unhealthy. Stressing about everything you put into your mouth is not a, healthy lifestyle.

What is the Feminine approach to a Healthy Lifestyle

This is a respect based approach to, healthy living. If I can help show you how awesome your body is, and how it’s doing so many things right now, in this moment, then what will start to happen is, you’ll start to recognize that your body is always talking to you.  She’s always speaking to you.  She can guide you on the best things to eat and the best ways to move and how to thrive in this whole self-care thing.  You don’t need a plan, you don’t need somebody telling you what to eat and how to exercise and what to do to feel happy, your body can tell you all of that.

We live in this Western society that just cuts you off at the head and makes you think that all your body is or something you manipulate, that’s all it is it’s just this mass, that has no voice or no wisdom.  So when you start opening up the lines of communication with your body, you start to listen to it. You start to feel really good.  It is just like when you get a cut you don’t have to look at the cut and be like okay white blood cells come do your thing. No the white blood cells are on it. They start forming a scab around the cut and the processes of healing begins.

Our bodies are so smart that we can’t even conceptualize and wrap our mind around all the brilliance of our body.  So if I can teach you some of that, and I can show you how awesome your body is and how she is here to guide you.  She’s here to guide yourself care and, healthy lifestyle, and  she’s also here to guide you on your life choices.

The feminine approach to an, active lifestyle, is really is a woman’s 28-day cycle if you’re menstruating.  As women we have a 28-day cycle and that 28-day cycle mirrors the moon.  There’s four phases within our 28-day cycle and also within the moon cycle.  Those four phases also mirror the four seasons of the planet. A, healthy lifestyle, includes following your cycle.

For example just to make this really simplified, when you’re bleeding it is the New Moon phase.

When we’re having our period we tend to be more hibernating, we’re not as extroverted.  This is our introverted time.  This is the time when we reflect and restore.  This is our winter time so if you’re ever confused you just look at the season the new moon. So when you’re bleeding doing a high intense workout it’s probably not the best thing for your body.  If you’re on hormonal birth control or you’re not having your period,  just start tracking the moon and your body will start syncing up with it.

Vice versa the full moon  is your ovulation or summer phase.  You are hyper energized.  There’s lots of growth, there’s lots of expansion, there’s lots of extroverted energy and so this is a really good time for an, active lifestyle, in terms of movement. Now is the time for that high intensity workout or doing that new salsa high intensity class.

Wildly Alive  self-care and, Healthy lifestyle, coaching program

Wildly alive is about Shame -based change is by telling yourself you can’t have those things and you’re a bad person if you eat those things, so just to flip this on the head a little bit and think about it from a respect based change.  I always tell my clients I would never tell them they can’t eat things ever unless they have an allergy to something,  that’s a whole different conversation. Telling yourself you can’t eat bread because this study says that bread is bad for you.  I don’t think that’s enough to really shift into respect based change.  I’m a huge believer in moderation.  I think a little bit of everything is okay.  So have the bread or have the beer, really sit and enjoy it.  If your body starts to say to you, I feel bloated every time I drink a beer, then make some changes. Drink half a beer or try a different beer.

Here are the mechanics for a,  healthy active lifestyle, during covid-19

  • trying keeping the energy light in our house
  • limit media, limit the news because it is mostly negative
  • have a lot of sunlight.
  • getting outside and connecting with nature. Being in nature boosts your immune system. I also love to bring nature into my house. I have lots of my salt lamps.
  • An, active lifestyle, starts with some sort of movement on a regular basis. It could be going out for a walk, it could be yoga, it could be bike riding. Exercise calms your nerves.
  • drink a lot of water
  • increasing your vitamin C intake. I’ve been making this lemon ginger juice.
  • stay open to the lessons of the, covid-19, pandemic
  • be grateful for what you have and for your family

I read somewhere that you were disappointed in Oprah. Please share why that is.

I would to preface this statement with I do love Oprah. I love her in so many different ways as a woman, as a woman of color.  She is breaking the mold and I love her for so many reasons; but a few weeks ago, I was watching an interview with her in Lady Gaga and she’s on stage and they were talking about mental health and I loved it. I was like yes I love this conversation they’re about mental health, this is such an important part of health right now. But then I started seeing  WW everywhere and I was like what is WW? It was  Weight Watchers and I was so devastated in that moment because Weight Watchers is diet culture.  It’s the epitome of diet culture.  They were having this beautiful conversation about mental health and calorie counting. Weight Watchers has been proven to be mentally unhealthy. It was so sad.

I still love Oprah, I know she’s human.  I know she’s flawed.  I forgive her.

Coronavirus: How to Protect Yourself

The, coronavirus, is the latest virus to reach pandemic spread.  Before it was SARS, Ebola, Aids. Since these viruses come around every couple of years, learn how to protect yourself.

In this episode Dr Joe Nieusma, shares information on how viruses like the common cold, influenza virus, and other viruses operate in our body, what is the virus intent, how our immune system fights, what happens when the, immune system, looses the fight, and how health care workers stabilize patients.  We look specifically on what makes the, coronavirus, so deadly and so infectious. Finally we discuss wellness programs and how you can protect yourself against the, coronavirus, and the next infectious virus, since they come around every 2 years or so.

Coronavirus Update

As we record this episode the world is in a panic regarding the, Coronavirus, also called the, COVID-19

  • The US death toll for the, corona virus, has climbed to more than 278
  • COVID-19, cases in the US have surpassed 22,000+  and there are more than 298,000+ cases  worldwide, 12,755+ deaths.
  • Confirmed cases of the novel, coronavirus, have topped 200,000 worldwide
  • Federal reserve cuts interest rates to nearly zero
  • Italy reported 368 new, coronavirus, related deaths on March 15, a 25% rise
  • Many US retailers have cut hours or closed in the face of the, coronavirus
  • Spain reported that deaths from the, coronavirus, have more than doubled in a day to 288 with infections near 8,000
  • All these reports have produced fear. People are hoarding supplies.  There is no toilet paper, wipes, hand sanitizer, bleach, hydrogen peroxide and other items in the stores.

My guest today is Dr Joe Nieusma is the fearless CEO/Chief Toxicologist at Superior Toxicology & Wellness, an international scientific consulting firm that he founded.

The Behavior of viruses?

I’ve been in toxicology for 30 plus years and my specialty is exposures scenarios that the human body must endure. Exposure is the broad brush.  That could be chemical exposure, that could be pharmaceutical exposure, that could be exposure to, electromagnetic radiation, that could be 5G, that could be biological exposure or microbial exposure; so the fact that I’ve specialized in exposure of the human body, that’s where my expertise comes in.  Exposure to the biologicals, viruses to specifically the, coronavirus.

  • I opened my own practice and company called, Superior Toxicology and Wellness, providing services helping with the pharmaceutical industry and in chemical exposures. Basically taking care of people, giving them a full toxicological report.
  • The human body has a set amount of defense systems and exposure to the, coronavirus, in particular that’s where the damage starts kicking in.

Before we get into our discussion of the, coronavirus, let’s talk about viruses like the, common cold, SARS, Influenza virus, Mers, AIDS virus, Herpes virus etc.

The common cold virus

  • The, common cold, is a virus actually in a classification called, rhinoviruses, which is actually a sub classification of the, coronavirus, family so they’re all related.
  • Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral respiratory illness started in  … Europe, and Asia before the SARS global outbreak of 2003 was contained.
  • Influenza Virus, commonly known as “the flu“, is an infectious disease caused by an influenza virus. Symptoms can be mild to severe. The most common symptoms include: high fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle and joint pain, headache, coughing, and feeling tired.
  • Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is viral respiratory illness that is new to humans. It was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012 and has since spread to other countries.
  • Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus(HIV). By damaging your immune system, HIV interferes with your body’s ability to fight infection and disease.
  • The herpes simplex virus, also known as HSV, is an infection that causes herpesHerpes can appear in various parts of the body, most commonly on the genitals or mouth. There are two types of the herpes simplex virus.

The coronavirus is designed to not get detected

All these viruses consists of a protein coat, the technical scientific word for it is a capsid and this protein coat protects the genetic material which is inside the virus.  The two basic types of virus you have are DNA viruses and RNA viruses.  They have genetic material and they have a protein coat that consists of multiple proteins and this is collectively known as a, viral particle, so that, viral particles, need some sort of a pathway to attach to a host and get into a host cell.  The, coronavirus,  is specifically designed for two things:

  • it’s designed to get into that host cell
  • and it’s designed to avoid getting eliminated.

So the way that happens is that it has an interaction through a specific receptor and with the, coronavirus, that receptor is the 8/2 receptor – stands for angiotensin converting enzyme. That is the gateway for the, coronavirus, to attach to the host cell and get all of the genetic material into that host cell.

The, coronavirus on its own can’t replicate it needs to be in conjunction with the host cell and what the, coronavirus,  does is what all viruses do.  It hijacks the host replicating machinery to make copy after copy of the viral genetic code, so then when that host cell is so loaded with, viral particles,  it virtually bores open and sends new viruses all over the body.

  • The virus that hijacks the cells and uses it to replicate will kill that cell when that starts to happen the body mounts a defense against those, viruses so it’s a battle between how fast can the virus replicate or how fast can the body take out the virus that’s trying to overpower the defense mechanisms of the body the defense mechanism of the body.
  • This is called your, immune system. The, immune system, is the super complex organ system in your body that never gets enough credit, the, immune system, in the human body has the power to ruin your life and it does that when it gets out of whack and starts attacking yourself. This is called autoimmune disease, so it is a  delicate balance of keeping your immune system in check but still powerful enough to battle against viruses.
  • That balance that is generically called, wellness, so you can begin to see how everything is.

How the immune system works to fight the coronavirus

When the, virus, is winning over the, immune system,  that’s when you start to see symptoms of the viral illness. The body gets sick and the illness progresses.  The body is spending all kinds of resources to try to fight the viral load the viral replication and it’s also now trying to manage the symptoms of that illness.

The way you intercede pharmacologically that means fancy big words are saying how do you use drugs to attack the, viruses, well you need an antiviral drug or vaccine and usually those types of drugs target those proteins that are in that protein coat that’s around the genetic material or they try to halt the viral replication in the cell.

  • We sacrifice the one cell to stop the viral replication and if we’re going after the protein coat that’s usually the targets of, vaccines,
  • It’s difficult to make a vaccine that’s why there’s no cure for the, common cold, because those proteins in that coat are continually and rapidly mutating. You have to have something stable to develop a vaccine to fight that viral infection and if the mutation rate is too fast there’s not a target that’s around long enough to design that vaccine against.

How does the Influenza virus vaccine work?

The way to describe this is let’s say you have a bucket of, flu viruses,  and there’s a hundred different kinds in there.  The look at historic data about emergence of these different viruses historically over time and they’re trying to predict the best case scenario for which, flu virus,  is going to break out and run through the human population in any given year. So what they do is they take the top three that will most likely to break out, flu viruses, and they formulate that season vaccine to those three viruses.  There’s no guarantee that they’re getting it right.  There’s no guarantee that it’s going to be effective and it’s always going to be a best-guess scenario.  It’s still a good idea to get a flu shot because more times than not, one of those flu viruses that they have in that mixture is going to the one.

Why does the, coronavirus, affect the elderly population?

I’m understanding why the people who are dying from the, coronavirus,  so far are the elderly or are sick people who have compromised, immune systems,  because the, immune system,  can’t fight the, coronavirus, as fast as their bodies are making these duplicates.

What they’ve seen in the population statistics are the people at the greatest risk are the people that are 70 years old or older or those that have pre-existing medical conditions,  respiratory effects, cardiac effects.  Those  folks with those types of medical problems are particularly at risk and those are the ones that should absolutely adhere to every one of the guidelines being put out.  Stay away from crowds, keep your hands washed, do not touch any common surfaces where this infection could be because they have the least amount of capacity to fight and survive this particular viral infection.

What makes the, coronavirus so infectious?

If I had to answer that with  one word that word would be, infectivity.

Basically the difference between the, coronavirus, COVID-19, this year’s poster child for pandemic is  the  amount of people that got this infection and how easily it spreads from person to person to person.

This is the key that sets it apart from other, viruses, like, common cold, SARS, Influenza virus, Mers, AIDS virus, Herpes virus, Ebola virus,  etc.

The infectivity rate of the, coronavirus,  COVID-19 is much greater and much more aggressive than viruses, that have been available in the past or attacked  humans in the past.  So in one word it would be its infectious nature.  That’s what sets the, coronavirus, apart; but the reason that is  because of the gateway that, coronavirus, gets into the host cells it’s the ace 2 receptors.  (Angiotensin converting enzyme 2.)

Coronavirus receptors

  • Humans have these, coronavirus receptors, on your heart, on your lungs, on your kidney, on your liver, on all of your blood vessels, and in a high propensity in your oral cavity, your mouth, your tongue, your cheek, your throat, your airways; so whenever there is any viral particles, let’s say somebody that gets less than 6 feet away from you sneezes and you can feel the droplets on your face well you also have those receptors in your mouth, and your throat ,and all of those droplets if that person is infected is just chock-full of, coronavirus, and those viruses bind to those receptors in and around wherever they can get in your body and then start that process of replicating.
  • Smokers have a higher level of the ACE2 receptors, so they are more susceptible to the, coronavirus.
  • The virus invokes an inflammation response, so what happens is the virus gets in and it triggers your, immune system, your, immune system,  calls for the cavalry and the cavalry consists your t-cells that’s your b-cells and all of your other leukocytes, your white blood cells, come rushing to wherever this space is that this attack is going on and the your body is mounting a mass inflammation response to try to kill whatever is there in this case it’s the, corona virus.
  • The problem is the things that go awry is that when your, immune system, gets completely overzealous and calls in everything it has to launch an inflammation reaction that’s bigger than it needs, it loses the braking mechanism if you will and what you have is called a cytokine storm. That cytokine storm produces such an inflammation reaction that it runs through your cellular protective mechanisms.  Your lungs get flooded and your organs start to shut down.

Organ failure and the coronavirus

You can get multiple organ failure over a very short period of time.  If the person is going into, cytokine storm, because of the, coronavirus, infection, it’s a very bleak picture.  It’s very painful and the people have to have very intense resource intensive medical care if they’re going to have a chance to survive.

The, coronavirus, can be symptom-free up to 14 days and I’ve seen some evidence that suggests it could be 24 to 28 days without symptoms.  What’s going on at that time is there’s a fight raging in your body between the, coronavirus, and the, immune system,  if the, immune system, wins then that person never shows symptoms; but is still was infected and give it to other people.

The other thing which you hear repeatedly in the media, is that you have to  be careful because this, coronavirus, can live on surfaces for up to nine days. Think about this as you grab the grocery cart handle and the gas pump, then after touching those services how many times do you scratch your nose or touch your eye.

How to Protect yourself against the Coronavirus?

  • You have to protect yourself against infection the best defense is avoiding infection in the first place.
  • That’s barrier protection that’s avoiding the crowds
  • That’s keeping your common areas clean
  • That’s washing after you touch common areas
  • It’s just not doing anything stupid
  • Make sure you’re in top physical condition
  • you know I mean just make sure
  • Make sure you’re hydrated
  • Make sure that you’re getting enough sleep
  • Make sure that you’re eating a good diet not a bunch of processed food
  • Eat a diet of half or mostly plants and you’re going to be okay
  • Practice Wellness

I was listening to Dr. Deepak Chopra give advice on the, coronavirus,  and he talked about having a healthy lifestyle that included, meditation, exercise, and  nutrition.

What is your wellness program to prevent the, Coronavirus?

  • Meditation is tremendous, it’s the power of the mind. You absolutely have to have a positive outlook and you have to be thinking about how you want things to be, not how you dread things could be.
  • Exercise the promotes a healthy body, it helps you to eliminate toxins and gives your body an avenue to eliminate things. Exercise increases your body temperature and it produces the sweat and it increases the circulation to the lymph system, which is your garbage disposal in the body.  Which helps to eliminate toxins.  Exercise gives you the sense of well-being.  I try to do something active every day.
  • Nutrition like I said right before eat half and mostly plants and you’re going to be okay. There’s actually some new research out there that shows after going 90 days on a vegan diet that you change the transcription of 500 different genes in your body, some of them for promoting wellness and others for preventing disease.  It just unlocks your body’s ability to engage with the consciousness of the universe.

One product that I have found that builds up your, immune system, and I’ve written a paper for non-scientific people is called C60 complete from livelongerlabs.com.

Its carbon 60, which is the world’s most efficient antioxidant.  Having carbon 60 on board can help to stop that cytokine storm that happens when you’re when your inflammation response goes haywire and the other two ingredients in C60 complete are black seed oil and curcumin. Those two are very powerful natural products that have been around for centuries in the herbal medicine circles.

The other programs that I like are on my website Superior Toxicology and Wellness.  Click on the HOPE button, HOPE stands for, Health Optimization Prescription Evaluation.  Those folks who are on multiple drug products and think they have no way out of that polypharmacy because one doctor put them on one thing and the next doctor put them on the next thing and the third doctor put them on something else and none of those doctors took the time to look at what they were already on,  I’ll do that for you.  I’ll be that pharmaceutical advocate and give you the questions that you can ask your doctors to say.  Do I really need to be on these drugs or why am I on these drugs. Because if you can eliminate the drugs and give your body what it needs to function optimally, you’re going to give yourself the best case scenario to fight off these pandemics.

This year it’s, coronavirus, before it was, SARS,  before it was, Ebola virus, it’s always something killing humanity about every two years.

Novel coronavirus, is among the family of, coronaviruses, that cause illnesses that range from the common cold to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Until last year, the new strain had never before been seen in humans.

Symptoms of the infection include serious respiratory illness often with additional fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. Currently there is no cure nor a vaccine for the infections, so physicians treat patients based on their symptoms. Some patients come down with a bad case of pneumonia or kidney failure. Gastrointestinal problems, like diarrhea, have also been reported.

People who already have underlying health conditions may be more susceptible to the infection, and their symptoms may be different from  the majority of cases — for example, they may not experience respiratory problems.

Exploring CGM as a Tool To Optimize Metabolic Health

Carly Hayes discusses the importance of using a cgm to improve, metabolic health, and why, blood sugar, is connected to longevity and overall well-being. Metabolic health,  refers to how our metabolism processes energy and uses the food we eat to fuel our bodies.

Less than 7% of Americans are metabolically healthy, indicating a widespread issue with the efficiency of our metabolism. Monitoring, blood sugar, using a cgm, also called a, continuous glucose monitor, is a key aspect of, metabolic health, as it provides valuable information about how our bodies are processing food.

Continuous glucose monitoring (cgm) technology allows individuals to track their, blood sugar levels, in real-time and make informed decisions about their diet and lifestyle to, optimize metabolic health. Carly explains how cgm can be used to identify patterns and trends in, blood sugar response, to different foods and activities, and how this information can be used to make meaningful changes to, improve metabolic health.

How is Metbolic Health Measured

Myrna: So right off the bat, because I had never actually heard of that term before, and I see that your company is labeled as a, metabolic health, company. So tell us, Carly, what exactly is, metabolic health, and what does this entail? I know one of the prongs of it is diabetes, but I think that it encompasses more things. So can you talk to us about what exactly is, metabolic health?

Carlee: Definitely one of my favorite topics to get into and shout out to Dr Peter Attia and The Outlive book. If you haven’t read that, that’s a really great place to get started on all things, metabolic health, and really level up that knowledge. But when we look at, metabolic health, that word sounds a lot like metabolism. So I like to simplify it a little bit and just think about what even is our metabolism and how can we use that information, because we know now that this is the key to longevity. This is the key to living a healthy lifespan and having a good health span. So when we think about, metabolic health, this is kind of this umbrella term that encompasses how our metabolism works.

And if we break that down just a little bit more, what that means is your metabolism is how you process energy. This is how your body takes the foods that you eat and all the factors that you put in to your body and uses that to fuel you throughout the day. So if we’re looking at metabolism, some of the things that might tell us how our metabolism is doing are what we’d get in a normal lab draw at our doctor’s office, right? So you get a glucose lab, you get your cholesterol, your lipids, also your weight, your waist circumference are kind of encompassed in that category.

But all of those different metrics just tell us that one thing. How is our metabolism doing? Are we taking the food that we eat and using it efficiently? And the scary statistic that’s been thrown out a lot lately is that less than 7% of Americans are metabolically healthy. So, like 93% of our population has some sort of issue in the efficiency of their metabolism. So that’s critical, right? That’s really, really important for us to look at. And I think the thing that I always want people to know is that you have the power to change your, metabolic health, to optimize it and improve it for the future.

Try Nutrisence cgm for Yourself
Nutrisense cgm on my cruise
Nutrisense cgm on my cruise

Have you been trying to lose weight and can’t lose a pound even though you have tried everything!

Well so did I, so when I heard about Nutrisense Continuous glucose monitor I had to give it a try.

A cgm monitors which foods spike your glucose as this contributes to weight gain.

Been using my cgm for about 1 month and the lbs have started to fall off. All I do is scan after each meal!

Right now Nutrisense is offering my listeners and friends $50 off your first month. Head over to www.Nutrisense.io and use code MYRNAPW

A cgm monitors your blood sugar continuously

Because from its basic standpoint, this is the things that we’re putting into our bodies and doing in our lifestyle every single day that influence that metabolic health. And what I do, what, Nutrisense cgm, does specifically, is we look at one part of that. We look at glucose or blood sugar, which I think everyone’s kind of this is a buzzword, right? We’re all thinking about, blood sugar, and how to, improve blood sugar levels, even if we don’t have diabetes.

And that’s because of a couple of reasons. But the first is it’s really easy to monitor and it tells you a lot of information. So when we look at, blood sugar, this is basically a sign of how our body is taking that food and how it’s processing it. And so what I always like to say is our body is really good at keeping glucose or blood sugar, which is the fuel that fuels our body and keeps us going from day to day in a really stable range, right?

But what happens when we have factors in our life and we all do that, push it outside of that range repeatedly, that’s when we run into issues. So if we look at a normal metabolism, right, if we eat a meal, what’s going to happen is that our, blood sugar, is going to go up, and that’s normal. That’s exactly what we want to happen. That’s a normal impact of having a balanced meal. And what happens then is that we have this hormone, and we can dive into that a little bit more, called insulin, that comes in and helps move that blood sugar from our blood into our cells so that we can use it.

How cgm helps with dysfunctional metabolism

And if we have a dysfunctional metabolism, which, again, is a lot more common than I think we realize today, what happens is we eat that same meal, our blood sugar goes up, but we don’t have the same insulin or that same hormone response to bring it back down into range. So it stays up for longer. We run into all the issues that cascade as a result of that, which we can get into those in detail. But what’s happening is we’re unable to kind of bring that down and self regulate.

And what’s cool about Nutrisense, what’s cool about monitoring your blood sugar is you can see that, right? If you’re monitoring how your blood sugar is doing, you can see how your body responds to every single meal or factor in your life, and then you can proactively address anything that’s keeping it up in that range that we don’t want to see to avoid those complications later on. So I think I always think of glucose as kind of the lowest hanging fruit, right? It tells us so much information about our metabolism in our body, and then it tells us where to put our energy and our focus to make meaningful changes long term.

Myrna: Yeah, well, I’m soaking in all this nutrition. I’m actually reading at night. I’m reading Stephen Gundry’s book, The Keto code, it’s called and basically there he talked specifically about what we’re going to be talking about later in the show, which is, continuous glucose monitoring, because he’s saying that you need to know how your body responds to different foods. And when we prick our finger in the morning or whenever you prick it, that’s not giving you an idea of continuous.

How does cgm monitor glucose levels

For instance, you just said that, yeah, when you eat, you expect your blood sugar to spike, but if you continue monitoring it, you can see if it’s going to come down or what is it doing and things like that. But the question I had for someone that’s listening and want to understand, metabolic health, so is glucose monitoring the main issue in, metabolic health?

Myrna: So let’s say that when I’m having this urge to eat sweets, my blood sugar is okay. So let’s move now to the, continuous glucose monitoring. So let’s say that let’s talk about what diabetes is. So you’ve eaten, you’ve got this glucose in your blood. The insulin is there to get rid of the glucose in your blood and get it to your muscles or get it to your cells. But because you’ve got diabetes, it’s still in the blood, right?

So when we have this, continuous glucose monitoring, one, it’s telling us that the glucose is still in the blood, I’m assuming. And two, like me, let’s say that I ate a meal and I have a spike in my blood sugar, but maybe then it dropped and then I crave sweets, take us through what this, Continuous Glucose Monitor, does with those type of issues.

Nutrisense CGM
Nutrisense cgm

Carlee:  So this is a cgm. So this is the actual thing that sticks in your arm. So, Continuous Glucose Monitor, and I don’t have it opened, but if you’ve seen most people I think have seen this, but it’s just a small little it looks like two quarters stacked on top of each other and you insert it into the back of your arm. It doesn’t hurts, but it monitors your, blood sugar, continuously per the name for two weeks. And that’s really cool because you can see it at all times a day, not just when you’re fasting or on average, you see it overnight, you see it for every single meal.

And that information is delivered to your cell phone. So, for instance, we use our own app, but if you use any, cgm, they’ll have their own app that you can use. And then in real time, as soon as you scan it or it goes to your phone, you’ll see what your glucose is doing in that moment. I think there are a couple of things that it can do or the benefits of the cgm for that reason. The first is that in real time, you are able to see how your decisions impact your metabolism or your, blood sugar.

Transform Your Mind Podlink

A cgm give you information in real time

So I think if we look at all the different things that we do for our health, or say you have a health goal of losing weight, right, say you are following a specific diet plan or an exercise plan, how long does it take you to see those changes pay off?

You’re doing all the hard work, you’re putting in the time and the effort, but you might not see those changes for a month, two months, right? It depends. It’s not that linear process. And I think sometimes that can be really frustrating for you or for anyone trying to make a goal because it feels like you’re putting in the work and not seeing that payoff. I think the benefit of the cgm is as soon as you make that decision, you see it impact you either in a good way or in a not so good way.

And it’s that real time data that helps you first learn. I always say the first couple of weeks of wearing a cgm is 90% learning. You’re just learning about your body. You’re curious, you’re trying to see what different foods or activities do to your blood sugar and how that relates to how you feel. And then once you kind of feel good with your data, then it becomes a behavior change piece. It keeps you accountable. You see that change.

You know exactly what happened. And you can use that as kind of a reinforcement to stay on a good path and know that you’re making the right decisions in the moment. Those are the big things that are really cool about the cgm.

cgm’s tells you Your homeostatic range

Myrna: Yeah, but I still don’t get it. So I want to use real experiences so that me and someone’s listening can understand. So when you eat, let’s say you eat pasta, your blood sugar is going to spike. It spikes for everybody because that’s pasta. So what is this cgm telling me? Telling me that when I eat my blood sugar spikes, are you saying that somebody might eat pasta and it doesn’t affect their blood sugar?

Carlee: Break it down a little bit. No, I got you. It’s a lot to take in. But, yeah, when you eat a meal, you said it perfectly, your blood sugar is going to raise and it’s going to fall after that spike. And that’s a normal, healthy metabolism. So within any single response to a meal, you’re going to see a peak and you’re going to see it come back down. But really what you’re looking for in that cgm data is, what does that look like? And there’s a lot of small nuances here that I’ll try and paint a picture, but what we’re looking for is we want that highest value after you eat, to be below a certain level.

And there’s a lot of debate about what that level, that quote unquote level, should be. But for a normal, healthy person, from the research that we’ve seen and we’ve done, we want to keep that below a peak of 140. So essentially, that’s telling you that’s where that homeostatic range is. That’s where your body’s trying to keep it. And if it’s going above that range, that’s a sign that maybe that meal didn’t work really well for your body. Right. If it peaked a little bit higher, that might be a sign that that pasta, hey, we need to adjust that a little bit. So I’ll get into maybe some changes that we could make if we have that high spike. So that’s first you’re looking at the peak. How high are you going?

The other thing you’re looking for is how big of a shift you had in your glucose. So we kind of talked about that blood sugar roller coaster, right? If you’re having large shifts and then spiking down, that can be a sign that something’s not going well or that meal didn’t work well for you. Similarly, if you’re starting at a really low stage in your blood sugar and then spiking really high, that’s. A big shift.

Metabolic health, Diabetes and cgm

So what that’s telling me is, hey, my body responded really strongly to this. This is a big glucose shift, and we want to keep it in that stable range. So this might be something I want to pay attention to. How can I reduce the amount of that shift? And then the third and last thing is how quickly that blood sugar came back down to my pre meal values. So we’ve already looked at how big of that shift was, what that total peak was, and then how quickly did it come down. And this is essentially telling you, how well did my insulin get me back down to that homeostatic range, right? Was I able to recover from that meal or did I stay really high for really long?

And all of those pieces together tell you how your body tolerated that meal. And so, again, if you have diabetes, a little bit of that is out of your control, right, because your insulin isn’t working or responding as well as it should be. But if you’re seeing that, then there are definitely some changes you can make in your diet, in your lifestyle to help improve that response. And that’s where we hear that term insulin sensitivity a lot.

And that’s a good thing. That means if you are insulin sensitive, you are sensitive to the effects of insulin, and your body’s able to bring that back down and kind of keep you in a really good range for whatever meal that you have. If you are insulin resistant, on the other hand, which is the defining characteristic of type two diabetes, that means that, hey, your body’s trying, right? It’s producing that insulin, but we’re just not responding like we should.

And so either that blood sugar is spiking too high, or we’re staying really high for really long, having big spikes from meals that maybe shouldn’t have that big spike. So if we look at that pasta example and this is where I get really excited, because this is where we can make changes and we can try different things and experiment. So say I have that pasta meal and I spike really high. I go above that 140 range, and I know that maybe that was just a larger spike than I want to see.

There are definitely some lifestyle or diet changes we can make. And the first one, and you kind of alluded to this is like your carbohydrates. How can you improve either the type of carbohydrate you’re having to help your body process that better, or can you adjust maybe the portion size of that carbohydrate so that it’s the right amount for your body? And you did a great job of saying that when insulin comes in and tells our body to bring that blood sugar down, it’s bringing it into our muscles.

And that’s a huge sink for glucose. That’s like our storage space for glucose. It’s kind of our secret weapon for handling carbs. And so the other thing we can look at is, well, can we add movement or exercise around this meal so that we can use those muscles as a sink for that glucose and kind of help it soak up that from the blood so that it’s not staying there for too long. So if we’re seeing kind of some differences in the spike, the shift, or the return to baseline, those are some levers we can pull, and there are so many more we can get into, but those are some levers that we can have that control over and optimize how we responded to that meal.

The Nutrisense cgm program

Myrna: Tell us about Nutrisense cgm

Carlee: Well, each sensor, the sensor that we use right now, and I think the technology is expanding, it’s growing, which is awesome. The technology we use right now, which is the freestyle cgm, lasts for two weeks. That’s just kind of the life of the device. But there’s a lot of cgm companies. Ours includes two CGMs per a month. So you essentially get a whole month of data. You just have to switch your cgm in between that month so that you can continue monitoring. So for some people, one month might be perfect, right? If you just want to explore and learn, maybe that’s perfect. But if you have a larger goal weight loss or prediabetes or you’re trying to manage your own diabetes, then a longer monthly plan might work better.

So even if you don’t wear a cgm forever, which most people don’t, right? You might wear it for periods of time throughout your life just to see different seasons of your life and how your body’s responding. But you’ll have that data forever, and that’s the power of it. So assess what you normally do one to two weeks. So maybe your first sensor, you’re just getting a baseline. You’re learning. And what I do, what our team of nutritionists do, and this is what I love what I do, I help people interpret that because, you know, just from this conversation, it’s a lot, seeing that peak and the shift and how quickly it comes down.

So I think having an expert there to kind of help unwrap that and untangle it with you and kind of connect it to your goals is really helpful. And then after you’ve established that baseline, you know what your normal blood sugar is, then you can start experimenting and trying different things and making small Tweaks and observing how they improve your glucose so that you have kind of a set up plan to keep you on the right path lifelong.

Myrna: Well, you also did a great tip or great hack there. And I’m not sure if people noticed it, but I paid attention to it. You said that if you eat protein with your carbs, then it slows down your insulin spike. That’s pretty good. When you were talking, I’m thinking, okay, so I don’t eat spaghetti. Rarely that do I pasta. But there was a time when you would have spaghetti and meatballs or spaghetti and whatever when I had little kids around, because little kids seem to like that.

Conclusion

Myrna: So how can listeners get access to your cgm tool? Tell us about your website. Your social media handles awesome.

Carlee: Yes. So if you want to learn more about Nutrisense cgm, so, continuous Glucose Monitoring, for Proactive Health, preventative health, or just if you have prediabetes or diabetes, you can find more about us at Nutrisense IO. And that is our website. We have a lot of information about our team and kind of what we offer there. But if you want to just learn more, I think we always posting really fun stuff on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter.

We’re also on LinkedIn, so you can follow us at Nutrisense IO on those as well. So I always tell people that, you know, I’m really passionate about CGMs. I’m sure you know that by now. But even if you don’t want to measure your blood sugar, even if that doesn’t interest you, you can still do some of the hacks that we talked about today. You can still do those things that optimize how your body’s processing that fuel.

Myrna: That’s beautiful. All right, guys. Thank you, Carly. Thank you guys for tuning in. And if you’re listening to this on itunes, we’d love for you to rate and review and subscribe. If you’re watching this on YouTube, we’d love for you to subscribe. I bring you quality guests like Carlee every week so that you can transform your mind, so you can transform your life. Can You Turn Off Cancer With Your Mind?

In this post Danny Carroll talks about Dr Ryke Geerd Hamer work on terminal cancer. Dr Hamer research indicates that no real diseases exist; rather, what established medicine calls a “disease” is actually a “special meaningful program of nature” and  once we identify the cause of the tumor, then you can, turn off cancer, with your mind by telling your subconscious mind that the issue has been resolved.

Abouth the guest

Danny Carroll spent the first half of his life in London, UK, and completed his education with a master’s degree from the London School of Economics.  He later moved to India where he now lives and works. Danny has spent the last 17 years studying alternative healing therapies in search of the Holy Grail of health and wellness.

Myrna:  Let’s start our conversation today by first looking at cancer, what is it, why it manifests and how we can, turn off cancer pain, with our minds.

Danny: Okay, can I suggest that we start on the fundamentals and we’ll do big picture and then we’ll go into the detail? Sure. Is that all right? Yes, conversation flows. Yeah, so let’s start on your assumption that cancer is a killer, okay? And let’s work around that topic and then we’ll move into a specific type of cancers from there, okay? Cancer is not a killer.  People very rarely die of cancer. People die of, cancer treatments.

Okay, so let me let me let me put some meat around those bones, right? Today’s medical system, and this is whether it’s conventional medicine or alternative medicine, are systems of symptomatic treatment, okay? I’m a businessman, Myrna, and what I’ve done essentially is, in business, we have this concept that you can never solve a problem by addressing the symptom of the issue.

If one of my employees comes up to me and says, Danny, I’ve been trying to solve this problem. And they explain to me that they’ve only been addressing the symptoms. I’ll slap them around the head, metaphorically speaking, of course, and say, you’re only looking at symptoms of the problem. You can never solve a problem until you address the cause of the problem.

You can’t solve the problem of cancer without addressing the cause

Okay, so I apply those same standards of problem-solving that I use in business, I apply the same standard of problem-solving into health as well, okay? So if we look at the situation that Dr. Hamer was in, for example, the tumor on his testicle essentially is the symptom, it’s the outcome of the, so let’s play it through. What was the cause of the problem? The cause of the problem was his son getting shot and murdered.

That life crisis, basically, triggers the brain, goes to the part of the brain that manages the testicle, and the brain says, right, we have a crisis. Increase the size of the testicles in order to be able to increase sperm and testosterone production so that we can have a better chance of getting the wife pregnant. But the testicle is just a symptom of the problem.

Okay, the life crisis is the fact that his son was murdered in the same way with the woman whose child got hit by a car, then the cause of the problem is the son, the child getting hit by the car, it goes to the brain and the brain says to the woman’s body, okay, we have a crisis, let’s get lactation re-going again so that the mother can offer a breast to the child and nurse the child back to health again.

Okay, so the issue that we have in today’s healing modalities, and this is both conventional and alternative, all of them, is they’re all systems of symptomatic treatment. In conventional medicine, they treat the tumor. The tumor is the symptom, okay? You can never solve a problem by addressing the tumor. You can see that for yourself in conventional medicine. There’s a concept called recurrent breast cancer, and that’s basically where you have breast cancer again on a breast that’s been removed.

Phantom cancer pain

Okay, the breast is no longer there and then you get cancer on a breast that no longer exists. Conventional medicine also has a concept of, phantom limb pain.  I have my leg amputated because I’ve got gangrene or I’ve got a problem where I’ve got an issue with my leg, okay? And I still feel pain in the leg after it’s been amputated, okay? So the leg is no longer there and I still have pain. That’s actually a common thing. It’s a very common thing.  So, How can, the question you have to ask yourself Myrna, how is it possible to have pain in an organ that is no longer there?

Myrna; How is it possible? Because the brain still thinks it’s there, just like how you have an imagination, I guess.

Danny: So let me explain, right? We have a life crisis, all of these programs are run in the brain, the brain is the CPU, the brain is the processing unit that manages this entire ecosystem and the brain sends down the message to the organ, right? The organ is the symptom. It’s the output of the problem. You can never solve a problem by addressing the symptom.

You can never solve a problem by addressing the organ, okay? Because it doesn’t matter if the organ is there or not, the biological program will still run in your brain. If you want to solve a problem by addressing at the organ level, the only option available to you is essentially to have your head cut off. And that is not a good thing to do. I’m not recommending that you do that.

Myrna: No, that will kill the host.

Danny: We can’t run with our heads. We cannot have our heads chopped off, right? But when you look at phantom limb pain, when you look at things like, recurrent breast cancer, when you look at people who still experience colon pain with ulcerative colitis, even after they’ve had their colon removed, okay? So removing the organ makes zero difference, okay? Because the program still runs in your brain, okay?

Now, this is a problem not only in conventional medicine, but also in alternative medicine. if I go on a vegan diet, so say the child, the woman’s walking on the street, the child gets hit by a car and ends up in ICU, okay, the woman’s got breast cancer, she feels a lump in her breast, I’ll go on a vegan diet or I’ll do laetrile or I’ll do vitamin C injections or I’ll do ozone therapy or immunotherapy or whatever you want to do, right?

It doesn’t make any difference because the biological program is designed to keep running until that child is better again. And when the child is better again, basically the purpose of that program has been fulfilled, regardless of whether you offered your breasts to the child to nurse them or not. Once the child is well again, then basically that biological program is no longer required and the subconscious mind will switch it off in the same way it switched it on. Now, the mistake people make is they correlate the treatments they had.

Chemotherapy survival rates

Now, if I put chemotherapy on this program, the effect it has essentially is nothing, okay? All it will do is essentially make me very, very sick and potentially kill me. I mean, of the many studies I’ve read on chemotherapy.  I quote a study carried out by oncologists in Australia in 2004 on, chemotherapy survival rates. This study gave the survival rate of people who take chemotherapy at barely above 2%, which means that chemotherapy kills essentially more than 97% of people who take it.

And it’s not so surprising because chemotherapy essentially is mustard gas. Now, why are they using chemotherapy? They’re using chemotherapy because they’re trying to kill the cells, okay? Because they think the cells have gone wrong. They think the cells have gone wrong because they don’t know what causes the problem and they don’t know the purpose of that biological program.

So they think these abnormally fast growing cells basically have gone wrong and they’re going to start going through your body and metastasize and kill you from within like some internal roaming army. It’s nothing like that. The cells have not gone wrong. The cells have gone right. The only thing is we don’t understand what causes the problem and we don’t understand the purpose of the biological program.

Okay, so they are right in that the cells are abnormally fast growing, but they think that they are fast growing because the genes are broken or because nature is broken or they’ve gone wrong or it’s been caused by pesticides or it’s been caused by cell phone tower radiation and this and that and whatever, all of the things smoking and all of those things that they say that makes these cells go wrong. That is an incorrect conclusion. The cells are going right. Okay. Nature in our lifetime will never make a mistake, not a single mistake. The only problem is we don’t understand it.

Myrna: Okay, so if I really understand what you’re saying is that we can stop cancer and we can, turn off cancer pain, by understanding the cause of it.

Danny: understanding the cause, the cause is critical. You can, Myrna, you can only ever solve a problem by addressing the cause of the problem. You can never solve a problem by addressing the symptom. Never.

Dr Hamer work with cancer patients

Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer, basically, essentially unraveled the biological code and he has identified the cause to every every cell in our body, whether it’s cancer, whether it’s multiple sclerosis, whether it’s osteoporosis, arthritis, whether it’s autism, whether it’s down syndrome, whether it’s bipolar schizophrenia, he has essentially unraveled the biological code and he has created something called the, Scientific Chart of Germanic New Medicine, which lays out the cause of every health problem that exists on earth today.

If you sign up to my website, you’ll download a 400 page book that has the cause to every health problem on this earth, okay? So let me give you one more of my own examples, okay? I got in 2019, I got cancer in my jaw, okay? All of these teeth are false here, right? These are all false. So I had a problem. I had a fight with my wife over American politics, strangely. Anyway, this triggered a cancer in this part of my jaw.

How I turned off cancer by solving the cause of the tumor

This fight with my wife lasted for approximately five seconds. Five seconds. Okay. And because it was such a short fight, it was very difficult for me to identify the cause of this problem, okay? Anyway, by the time I found the cause of the problem, a big tumor had been added to my jaw. I found the cause of the problem after a lot of digging.  And then when this tumor is removed, it’s removed with something called, TB microbacteria.

TB microbacteria essentially rots the tissue that’s been added to remove it, okay? I had the pleasure for a four-month period of having the taste and smell of rotting flesh in my mouth and my sinuses, which wasn’t very pleasant, but I understood what was going on, right? In that entire process, all my teeth fell out and it destroyed part of my jaw, right? So then I had to have a five-hour reconstructive surgery with a bone graft on my jaw where I had my my jaw reconstructed and the implants in order to put teeth in because I had no teeth there, right?

So I went for a five-hour surgery. I took one painkiller at the time of the surgery and I took one more painkiller at night before I slept on the day of the surgery, okay? Then I woke up next morning and I thought to myself, I wonder if I can switch this, I hate taking painkillers, right? So I’m like, I do anything I can in order to avoid taking tablets, okay? So I thought, okay, I wonder if I can, switch this pain off. So then I sat there and I thought, right, okay, what is the purpose?

What is the biological purpose of pain? Okay, the biological purpose of pain is to stop you from using a part of the body so it has the time, space and energy to heal, okay? If you cut your finger, okay, If you, when it swells up and becomes painful, if you don’t touch it, okay, then you’ll have no pain. As soon as you start trying to do the dishes and you put it in hot water, then you go. He’s telling you, stop using it. I’m trying to heal this. Let it be. I’ll just put it aside for a while. Don’t use it. Okay.

How I turned of cancer pain in my jaw

I had 35 stitches, I had no teeth here.  Because my, all the teeth fell out, right? But I can’t chew on this side of my jaw, right? Cause I’ve got no teeth. Okay, so I said to myself, oh, okay, I don’t have any teeth here, so I’m not gonna use it.  So I said to my subconscious mind, right, okay, subconscious mind, I understand that the purpose of pain is to give my body the time, space and energy to heal. I’m not gonna use, I don’t have any teeth, I’m not gonna use this side of my jaw, switch off the pain. and bang gone. Pain gone.

Myrna: Oh, wow. That’s amazing. Okay. Then what happens?

Danny: So then I slept for 20 hours for three weeks with no pain. But what happened is each time I got up and started eating, sometimes food could accidentally go around to this side of my mouth. Right. And then as soon as the food goes around this side, I’m like, ooh, that was a mistake. So then I said, okay, sorry, subconscious mind, that was actually an error. I’m not reneging on the deal, right, okay? I promise you, I’m not going to use this side of my mouth, because I’ve got no teeth, right? I’m not gonna use this side of my mouth. Please switch off the pain, bang, gone, pain gone, okay? So then I went through a five hour reconstructive surgery on my jaw.

Book Terminal Cancer is a Misdiagnosis
Book Terminal Cancer is a Misdiagnosis

Terminal Cancer is a Misdiagnosis

Myrna: All right. I think you told me that you can help my friend who has stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, So what do you offer? What is it that you offer? Do you offer a service? Your book talks about palliative care alternative medicine. Do you offer that?

Danny: So my book It’s called Terminal Cancers is a Misdiagnosis. This is an introduction to the medical discoveries.  This is the first of a 500 plus book series. I’ve written five of these. The problem with these medical discoveries  it’s taken me 10 years of applied mind in order to be able to understand these medical discoveries. And the vast majority of people are not going to do that.

So what I’m in the process of doing is writing one book on every disease so that when you have one specific problem, I have a breast cancer problem, or I have a ulcerative colitis, or an IBS problem, or I have a psoriasis and an eczema problem, that I’m writing one book on each disease so that you can read that book, and understand the cause of that problem, and then how to resolve that problem in your life.

Okay, so what I’m what I’m doing, what I’m doing is essentially making these medical discoveries accessible, so that anybody with no knowledge or no understanding of a subject can read, understand and absorb to understand the problem. When you understand the cause of a problem, you have a chance of being able to solve it and, trun off cancer pain.  Okay, If you cannot solve it on your own, and on my website, which is my name, www.danny-carroll.com,

I have resources of consultants who like me, been learning these modalities for many years, who you can reach out to, who will guide you on how to identify and resolve those issues in your life.

Conclusion

Okay, so this is the book. It’s available on Amazon in audio format, in Kindle format, in paperback and in hardback, and it’s available globally. This is essentially an introduction to this body of knowledge.  It’s autobiographical. It’s the journey I’ve been on over the last 17, 18 years of both studying many modalities, healing myself and healing others. So this is targeted, it’s called Terminal Cancer is a Misdiagnosis.

I’ve targeted this specifically at, terminally ill cancer patients, very simply because in my experience, they’re the only people that have the ears to hear this message.  So the only the only people traditionally who come to me is when doctors send them home to die. So this is targeted at terminal patients for that reason. However, all of the content in there applies to cancer at any stage, regardless.

It’s just most people before the terminal cancer will never pick it up. So that’s why it’s targeted at terminal cancer patients. It’s the first book in a 500 book series. I’m building a new media brand called the Healing Tribune. The tagline is the cause of disease made simple that is available on my website danny-carroll.com all of the 500 books will be available to read for free on my website.

I’m on all, all of my social media @thehealingtribune. So @thehealingtribune on YouTube, on Pinterest, and Facebook.

Becoming a peak performance coach

Myrna: Tell us your back story? Your story sounds like Robin Sharma’s in the The Monk who Sold he Ferrari.

Kerry: Absolutely. And by the way, that’s one of my favorite books, The Monk Who Sold his Ferrari. I read that book so many years ago and that was one of the books that changed my life. Even before I went into this wellness space, that’s such a great book. And it really shows you that at any point in your life, you really can change and move into a different space if you want.

So, for me, I felt like my life was going great. I had a good career. I had my children; I had a nice house. Everything was great, but didn’t feel great to be honest with you. And I had this experience where we were on a vacation hiking in the woods, and we came to this clearing in the woods.  It’s like trees in a circle, pine needles on the ground and the sun was just coming in to the center of the circle. So, I walked into the center of the circle in the sun and when the hit me, I had this crazy moment.

All my dreams came through but I wasn’t fulfilled

I flashbacked to the Kerry I was when I was 20 and back then I used to spend a lot of time in nature.  The flashback I had was it me sitting with my journal it in all my hopes and dreams. When I was a 20 year old young woman, I wanted to have a career, I wanted to have a beautiful family, I wanted to have a husband that loved me and supported what I wanted to do and I could support him. I wanted a beautiful house; I wanted to travel and adventure. I realized that I had achieved all my dreams. But what happened in the next instant was I realized that even though I had everything I wanted, I really wasn’t happy and I didn’t feel fulfilled.

Myrna: And why was that?

Kerry: Because I think it was on autopilot, right? And I started to think like where did those dreams come from? And I started to understand that a lot of those dreams came from outside of me. My society, my parents, my teachers. I’m a people pleaser. I want to please people; I want to be impressive. So, I went back to my hotel room and I wrote another whole list of all my hopes and dreams and they were things like, start teaching. I had always studied, personal growth.

So, the book you mentioned, I had read that probably when I was 20 or 25 right around that same time. And I had been studying, personal transformation, philosophy for many, many years. So, I was like, you know I’d really like to teach people some of the things I learned. I’d like to be an author, and I’d like to be a speaker and I was writing all these things down. So that’s all well and good. I get home from the vacation, lose the piece of paper or maybe it was my journal that I wrote it in, and I forgot all about it.

The creation of the morning routine

Then one day my alarm rang. I hit the snooze button, but instead of going back to sleep, which I usually did, and Myrna I would usually do that like a few times back-to-back, so I usually started my day racing around being a lunatic trying to get everything done on time.  Get the kids out the door, get myself out the door. But on this day, instead of going back to sleep, I just sat up in my bed and I meditated for 5 mins.  I was just observing the thoughts.

That night I was in my bed with my husband and I said, you know, I had such a great day. And he’s like, did you do anything different today? I told him what I had done and had gotten up and meditated for five minutes. And he said, Oh, that’s so cool. I’m gonna try it tomorrow. So, we tried it the next day. And sure enough, at the end of the day, he was like, that was amazing. I had such a great day. So, we both started doing a, morning routine and, eventually I started teaching this, morning routine meditation, to my students.

The first thing I noticed when I started teaching, yoga, was that yoga,  is a lifestyle and it really encompasses everything.

  • The way you live in this world,
  • The way you’re thinking,
  • The way you’re eating
  • The way you function in general,
  • The way you treat other people,
  • The way you treat yourself.

The timeless principles of morning routine meditation.

So, I said I would love to teach, yoga, and, meditation, to lawyers, business people and doctors.’ People who wouldn’t normally do it because honestly professional people, they are like, I don’t know about, meditation, they get a little nervous when you start using any of the lingo. So, I started to study the mind. And what I realized was you take those Eastern practices like ,yoga, meditation, and, breath work, and then you marry them to the science, which is all about how the brain works. so, I didn’t call it, meditation, but I just said this is a stress relief exercise.

I created this whole one hour, morning routine, and for me, I started to understand how important it was not only to create this, morning routine, but to tailor it to my lifestyle. So, for my husband, he started with half an hour, morning routine. I have an hour, but I always have as my base as my minimum five-minute, morning routine.

So, basically this whole, snooze button routine, that I came up with is for you to use as you need.  In my book, the snooze button sessions, I show you 12 different things you can do for, morning meditation, breathwork, exercises yoga or stretching, and journaling. There are so many different things, but then you choose which one of those things or what combination of those things you use. So sometimes I’ll break it up. Robin Sharma actually suggests not to do it the way I do it, which is you know, hitting the snooze every time and then moving to a new routine.

Achieve peak performance with a 20/20/20 morning routine

For peak performance during the day, start your day with a 20/20/20 morning routine. 20 minutes of spiritual growth meditation,  20 minutes of learning like reading a book, and 20 mins of exercise. You can do whatever works for you, and that’s what I advocate. I advocate for you learning the tools, figuring out what works for you, and even adding something you might like that I never even thought about. The reason this system works is because it’s a thing called, habit stacking.

When people make their New Year’s resolutions then do them for a few days, a few weeks, maybe even a couple of months then stop? It’s because the goal is not linked to anything. That is why I love doing, habit stacking, and starting with this, morning routine.  I believe that not only learning tools that will relax you and keep you in, ease and flow, but improve your health as well. These little changes can have massive effects and that’s really what I advocate.

Myrna: You’re seeing that a, morning routine, helps your clients achieve, peak performance, as well as, ease and flow. What else is the science behind it?

Podbean Transform your Mind Podcast

The function of the brain is to keep you alive

Kerry: Well, basically, the way your brain works is that your brain is designed to keep you alive. We are using all of our senses, our sight, our hearing our smell, or touch or taste. All of our senses are really designed just to take in information from the outside world. It goes to your brain, your brain processes it, the only thing your brain is really looking for is what is a danger?

Our brain actually filters out a ton of information that is actually right before our eyes, we don’t even see it. So, our brain is just looking for those negative things. So, when we’re talking about any of these practices, when we’re talking about creating a, morning routine, when we’re talking about meditating or doing anything that’s outside of what we would normally do, we’re actually rewiring our brain and we’re teaching our brain to behave differently.

Let’s say someone is driving really slow in front of me. I’m late for work. I start to get angry and stressed. My brain immediately goes into flight or fight mode. It registers it the same as it would if there was a lion in front of you. Your brain will react to a minor inconvenience like that the same as it would react to a terrible danger. Our brain either is like danger or no danger. It’s not like really degrees of it.

So, we really want to learn first of all that awareness piece. First you need to notice that you are getting angrier and angrier, I could start cursing out the person in front of me, or I could have some awareness and say, Oh, my body’s reacting. All these chemicals are starting to flood my body, cortisol, a stress hormone and a lot of other things to get you ready to run.  Adrenaline is flowing. But then you have your tools. You can turn the radio on and listen to a song. You could say to yourself. I’m running late, that’s fine.

Meditation and breath work reduces stress

You could even just do some, breath work, sitting in your car. You can call somebody and chat with someone and you know, say to them look, I’m feeling stressed.  You can listen to music or a book on tape or a podcast anything to signal to your brain, I’m not in danger. Now I’m going to take that time when I would have normally been angry or fuming even getting myself more and more worked up so that I arrive at work, not in a good place. And what happens then you get to work and now you’re complaining to everyone and you’re not the person you want to be.

Myrna: How do you help your clients solve this problem? Are your classes about, peak performance, or about a, morning routine?

Kerry: So, when I first start working with someone, I like to look at every area of their life so we go through everything, their social life, their love relationship, their parenting if they’re a parent, their career and finances and really survey all of the areas of their life. And what I find is people are really excelling in one area and then in a lot of the other areas, they haven’t even looked at it. So then once we know that, what area could improve, we start with that.

I personally believe that health should be a priority for you, focusing in on your health could really be a game changer for everybody. And again, I start small, five minutes, go take a walk after lunch, just do some jumping jacks, get up in the morning and do a very quick five-minute, morning routine stretch. Just start to bring more activity into your life and start to really care about your health, care about what you’re eating.

Our health is the stop on the peak performance chart

We can’t have, peak performance, without our health. It doesn’t always have to be health, though every person kind of knows once we go through all the categories which area they really need to work on. Some people need to work on finances. So, when you survey your whole entire life, all the categories of your life, your intellectual life, your emotional life, we all have certain areas that we’re like, that’s the one I need to work on.

So, I basically teach all of my clients a bunch of tools I always teach them, meditation, I always teach them, breath work, I teach them that they should stretch and strengthen. So that means doing something like, yoga, Qi Gong, and then something like weight training or something that’s actually going to improve your muscles. And you know, I have all these little things that I teach them the morning routine and the evening routine.

All of my clients have at least a five-minute, morning routine, and a five minute, evening routine, without your cell phone. Just something you’re doing for yourself. And I always say to people if you can make it longer than five minutes, try 15 minutes morning and 15 minutes at night or even longer, depending on your life circumstances.  Setting yourself up for success and having the tools to fall back on when you fall down. It’s something I think in the wellness world people don’t talk about as much.

Myrna: Are you still teaching yoga just for the stretches? Tell us about that.

Yoga as a peak performance tool

Kerry: I had stopped teaching yoga during the pandemic because I did not like teaching it online. So, then I started teaching, breathwork workshops, and all these different workshops on, peak performance, in the yoga studios. I would do that as a weekend workshop.  I’m not teaching, yoga, although I started going to, yoga, again as a student, which is so nice to be back in a yoga studio. I really am not going to tell anyone I’m a, yoga teacher.

If you have back pain, how to relieve back pain? Yoga. I’ll tell you I have this little routine I taught my husband on his hands and knees for his spine. He was having terrible back problems. So, every day for five minutes, he would just do this simple routine, and it completely healed his problem.  I always advocate to everybody move your spine in every direction every day. So forward and back, side to side, and then in a circle either direction because that’s what’s going to keep your spine limber and that’s what helps you stay youthful.

Myrna: That is great. I do the same thing with the Sun Salutation movements. I learned about the sun salutation a long time ago. It’s in my memory and I can actually go through those poses without even thinking about it.

Kerry: The absolutely works. And the reason it works, by the way is because it’s exactly what I said. It goes through all the motions. So, you’re moving all of your joints, you know, in every direction. And I don’t even think it would take five minutes to do three of them.

Why Health Literacy for Children is Important

Michael Dow , author of the Nurse Florence Children’s book series says that  poor, health literacy, is a real thing. And so, nurse Florence, children’s book series addresses these issues in many different ways. Not only does the general science help just bring basic education, like how do we smell things? How do we hear things? How do we see things? Basic things like, how does the brain work or how our nervous system works. But we’ve also started exploring disease topics such as, nurse Florence, what is kidney disease, nurse Florence, what is a heart attack?

Bio

Michael Stephen Dow graduated nursing school in August 2020. Michael now works as a Registered Nurse at an inpatient psychiatric hospital. Michael is the Founder and Manager of Dow Creative Enterprises, LLC. His books have garnered the Silver Nautilus Book award in 2020 (Nurse Florence, Help I’m Bleeding) and an Award-Winning Finalist in the Religion category for the 2021 International Book Awards (A Prayer to Our Father in the Heavens: Possibly the Greatest Jewish Prayer of All Time). Michael believes we will need the best of science and religion to successfully navigate ourselves, our civilization, through the future obstacles we will face.

Myrna: Why did you become a children’s book author?

Michael: My mom always said I would be a good author of children’s books. I wrote my first book, then I got my kids to read it, to be like a reviewer of the book. And in that first book, I thought it was really good. So, I submitted it for some Book Awards, and we got the silver Nautilus Book Award and their slogan was “Better Books For a Better World.” So that really inspired me to just keep writing. So, I did and we’ve gotten three other awards for two other books so far, and we’re counting. We hope to get many awards every year, I recruited a team of illustrators, and now we’ve published over 25 books.

My ulterior motive was to educate my own children. They are in the review process and they get editor money, especially when they find that one misspelled word.

Myrna:  How old are your kids?

Michael: Well, I have a 15-year-old autistic child so, he’s not really reading books and then I have a 12-year-old and a nine-year-old.

Nurse Florence tell me things about the heart
Nurse Florence tell me things about the heart
Nurse Florence Children’s books teaches health literacy to kids as young as 4 years old

Myrna: What age range are you targeting with these books?

Michael: I think it’s between ages 7 and 12. But, but we’ve already got some feedback that some parents have read the book to like four- and five-year-old and it because that there’s pictures on every other page. One side is the picture, either a science drawing or maybe a drawing of the kids interacting with the nurse, and then the tech so the four- or five-year old’s are even enjoying listening to their parents read. And again, it is written at a pretty basic level. But we do introduce some medical words to kids in every book.

Myrna: Yeah. I absolutely love it. I love biology, I didn’t take biology until I was in high school. But I absolutely love finding out how the body works and I can just imagine, four- or five-year old’s, learning, about how the body works then have all these questions for their parents.  That is the way kids are, they have a very curious mind and they have all these questions. So that’s amazing. It’s great to build their curiosity and to let them know, how the body works. And I would imagine that if any of this information sticks, when they do get the biology, they’ll be ahead right?

Michael: That is my job. I think is to help all of these kids get a little bit ahead so that when they get to the high school class, they’re hitting the ground running.

Does Nurse Florence cover mental health topics

Myrna: I know that you are a registered nurse now and your current job is at an inpatient psychiatric hospital. So, do you have any books on, mental health? How are you using the data that you’re collecting from being a nurse in a psychiatric hospital, in your books?

Michael: There are a couple of the books that I’ve incorporated some things about mental health.  One of these books is called “How Do our Fingernails Grow? In the book Jean is very nervous about a quiz. So, she bit her fingers too far back and has to go see the nurse to get a clip. And the nurse asked her why would you pull your fingernail like that? And she says, well, because I was very nervous with that quiz. I wanted to do really good. And so then the nurse teaches her a couple of coping skills like deep breathing, and, finger tapping.

The action or an act of tapping one’s finger against a surface, especially in time to a musical beat, or as a sign of anxiety, agitation, etc.

So, we have started to occasionally incorporates, mental health, coping skills in our books. But after, nurse Florence, is fully developed, which I plan there to be around 300 books in the series, then I want to do a, mental health, series that will that will focus completely on, mental health. With all the different coping skills that we can do for different disorders. So, so that’s in the future.

Myrna: You’re doing excellent work. That was a beautiful way of introducing, mental health. Continue with that and write about some more of the things that people do. You know, you can even get into, cutting, and all the other things that the kids do.

Does Nurse Florence address self harm

Michael: Yeah, Self-harm, is an issue that some parents that are listening to this are dealing with. The hospital that I worked at we regularly have patients there that are only there for, self-harm, and some of them have very bad scars up and down their arms and legs, and then they have to wear long sleeve shirts, maybe the rest of their life. These are so embarrassed what they’ve done. But there’s is a book that I found called “Freedom from Self Harm” I bought extra copies of this book on Amazon and I give them to those adolescent kids that have that real, self-harm, issues.

And every single kid that I’ve given that to have basically said it was life changing because the authors of this book let the child know that they understand where they’re coming from and why they’re doing it, and what they can do to help overcome those urges. So, if you have a child that’s dealing with self-harming cutting behaviors, then get them this book.

Myrna: I brought it up because you’re right, it’s one of the things the kids do. Even Willow Smith, who is Will Smith’s daughter was talking about how she was, cutting, herself and her parents knew nothing about it. Now, our topic is about, health literacy for children. So, you feel you felt that our country is deficient in this. So, talk to us about our country’s, health literacy, whether it’s a good for kids or whether it’s for adults. But do people know what’s going on with their bodies?

https://youtu.be/ARb3KuRrSJc

Our country has poor health literacy

Michael: I’d like to read some things from HealthyPeople.gov so that we’re on the same page. The Department of Health and Human Services defines, health literacy, as the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process and understand basic health information needed to make appropriate health decisions. So, what healthypeople.gov found is that patients with low, health literacy, levels are more likely to use the emergency department and more likely to return to the ICU after two weeks of being discharged.

They also they found that uninsured and publicly Insured, the people on Medicaid are at a higher risk for low, health literacy, and that almost half of adults who did not graduate from high school had low, health literacy. Another interesting thing that they found was that 74% of Spanish speaking, patients in the US had less than adequate, health literacy, as compared to 7% of English-speaking patients. So, the Hispanic community has an issue.  Another quick little fact here is that low, health literacy, is more prevalent among older adults, minority populations, those with low set socioeconomic status, and the medically underserved people.

They found that people with low, health literacy:

  • have a problem finding a doctor or even services for their medical problems or mental health problem to even know who to even look for or what kind of specialty to look for?
  • They have a problem filling out health forms.
  • They have a problem telling their doctor or their nurse about their medical history.
  • They have a problem seeking preventative health care and
  • They also have problems connecting risky behaviors in their health problems.
  • They have a problem managing chronic health conditions like maybe heart disease or even chronic kidney disease.

Nurse Florence addresses health literacy for children

So, poor literacy in health is a real thing. And so, nurse Florence, the series addresses these issues in many different ways. Not only does the general science help just bring basic education like how do we smell thing? How do we hear things? How do we see things? Basic things like that, you know, how does the brain work or how our nervous system works and things like that. But we’ve also started exploring disease topics so, Nurse Florence, what is kidney disease, nurse Florence, what is a heart attack?

So, the idea is that if a parent or grandparents had a heart attack, then the parents could buy the heart attack book and read it with your child or grandchild? To show what grandma or grandpa has just gone through? We have already started finding is that really alleviates worry by the grandkids. Parents are giving us feedback like, hey, I’m reading this book with my child and I’m learning too. So not only are we increasing the, health literacy for children, so that they can grow up good education and understanding of how the body works, but parents as well they read it with their kids. They are going to learn a couple of things.

And then one other thing I’d like to especially note out if you noticed on the website, all the different covers that, nurse Florence, is different in every book. So, the Health Resources and Services Administration says that one thing that providers can do to help with low, health literacy, is to reflect the age, cultural, ethnic and racial diversity of patients. That means we need more African American doctors and nurses. We need more Hispanic doctors and nurses we need everybody in the system. You know, to help with all the different racial diversity.

Nurse Florence addresses Diversity and Inclusion

So, what we’ve done is, nurse Florence, is a different race and ethnicity in every book. And this is to inspire kids to be like, Hey Mommy, look at this nurse for she’s she looks just like me. I could be a nurse when I grow up. So, we are addressing this, racial diversity, need in healthcare.  We got a Native American, nurse Florence, that’s been drawn right now. In one of the future books, we’re going to have an Indian.  We’re just going to keep the ball rolling and keep all the different ethnicities, because we believe that, diversity, and also, inclusion, is very important in health care.

Maybe if we can inspire the kids while they’re young, then maybe we can have a whole cohort of kids over the next five or 10 years that are gonna grow up wanting to get into the healthcare field or jobs in science, so that we can truly be racially diverse, ethnically diverse in in this important field.

One final thing about that Spanish comment is that there’s a lot of low, health literacy, with the Spanish speaking. We’re translating the books into Spanish and that’s thanks to my wife. She’s from Mexico. So, she is doing the Spanish translations and we hope to have an impact on the Hispanic community as well.

Michael: Another of the, nurse Florence, series is “Can I get Lyme Disease from a Tick Bite?” So that was actually at the suggestion of one of the illustrators. Because, Lyme disease, is bacterial infection from the tick bite.  One thing that’s neat is in the book, we have a very clear drawing picture of how to remove the tick with tweezers, the wrong and the right way. So, again, back to educating parents, not only our kids gonna get educated, but if the parents read this book with their child, they’re gonna see the proper technique of how to remove a tick so they don’t get, Lyme disease.

Conclusion Pick up your copy of Nurse Florence

Myrna: Sounds amazing. How can listeners get copies of your books?

Michael: So, you can go to https://nurseflorence.org/ That’s our main website and it has a links to many different things.  You can also find the books on Amazon. You might have to search like nurse Florence Michael Dow to get those books easily because there’s so many books on, nurse Florence, and this is such a new series, the books are not at the top of the list.  There’s also links to the programs that we’ve won the four awards for the three books, so that you can see for yourself on their websites of what we’ve won.

And, and also, I’d like to mention that next month we’re going to start a contest an essay contests for kids.  The winner gets a set of free set of the, nurse Florence, current series. Why that will help them in science and in school and help with their character. The grand prize winner will get a free set of the hardcover books of every book that we published so far. And then there will be runner up that will get a couple of books. This contest will definitely be by the end of September of 2022. We’re going to have the contest posted on the web site and you’ll be able to do that submission so that your child can get reviewed and hopefully win the grand prize.

The Emotional Trials and Triumphs of Cancer

The fear of, cancer, can be just as powerful as actual, cancer, right? And not all, cancers, in fact  most, cancers, are not a death sentence. So, what I wanted to do was to explain in my book is that we don’t really know what people are going through.

Today I interview  David Richman who is a motivational speaker, personal consultant, and author of CYCLE OF LIVES and WINNING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PACK.

Cycle of Lives shares 15 REAL STORIES OF TRIALS AND TRIUMPH WITH VICTORY AND DEFEAT: Many books only share one perspective; however, David’s book provides cancer stories told from 15 different perspectives, allowing readers to examine a wide range of experiences, events, emotions, backgrounds, and viewpoints. This array of human experiences will help readers to grow in empathy and better understand how issues like suicide, abandonment, loss, survivor guilt, abuse, fertility, and more, affect the way people deal with the traumas that shape their lives, cancer, or otherwise.

How has your life been impacted personally by cancer?

David: What brought me to this project was, my sister was diagnosed with, terminal brain cancer,  in 2004. So, she was right around 40, married with two young kids, great profession, life going great for her. Then all of a sudden, she was diagnosed with, terminal brain cancer, and all that was going to be taken away. To me that was profound on a lot of different levels.  Because not only was she gonna face the reality that she was going to die soon. Some people get a terminal diagnosis, but survive, but my sister had no hope.

She had kind of come to terms with the fact that there was a lot of different aspects of it that she had to deal with. And I think that’s kind of true with anybody that might have that type of an issue, where you’re forced to face your own mortality. And with, cancer, especially, you’re kind of given sometimes time to get your house in order, right? A lot of a lot of people die on the spot, they don’t get tine to put their house in order.

Myrna: So, let me ask you, I know I’m jumping ahead of myself, but it seems like a good point to ask the question. Do you think that from the people that you’ve spoken to you, do they appreciate getting this time?  If somebody asks, how much time I got, and I said five months? Do they appreciate that time and knowing they have 5 months to live? Or they prefer not to know?

Do people appreciate knowing of their mortality

David: That’s a great question. I think it’s probably super personal. That’s the whole reason that I wrote the book, if you are going through, trauma, or know somebody who is going through, trauma, whether it’s terminal or not, but it’s related to, cancer, you know, some other major trauma,  if you do have the opportunity to form deeper connections with these people, do so.

The problem is, is that we often self-isolate, and or we abandon people not willingly, but we just, we don’t want to say we don’t know what to do. We don’t want to make people feel guilty. We don’t want to say the wrong thing or bring people down or whatever. And so, a lot of times, people do not use this time constructively.

In the book Warm Socks: Life Lessons From My Father, by Edna Brown Mark, the author shares that after meeting a stranger in a Medical clinic, she realizes that money and material things wasn’t what she needed to be happy. . Warm socks: Life Lessons from my father is a captivating memoir you would want to give to anyone you care about. It’s a book about a father who didn’t give his daughter the materials things she wanted, but he gave her the most important gifts of all – powerful lessons to have a successful, fulfilled, and happy life. Myrna: How did you deal with your sister’s diagnosis? And how did you help her?

David: Great question. So, what we did was, throughout our adult lives, we were close, sometimes not close, because life just gets in the way, right. Like we she had her family and kids and friends and work and you know, just like gets in the way. After the, cancer diagnosis, though, I think we probably talked way more regularly and purposefully.

I had a friend recently who lost one of his best friends, and he said that they couldn’t count the number of, cancer nodes,  on his lungs, because there was too many, so he died really quickly after his, cancer diagnosis. And my friend said, that was probably the best way, why put him through all that pain?

Sometimes the reality is there, I felt like with my sister, even though she fought for three or four years, I mean, there wasn’t an option for her to survive, because she had a massive tumor and it spread. What happened was that anytime that I reached out, she was available. We didn’t always talk about heavy stuff. But knowing that there was a finish line, fast approaching, I think that we, with intentionality really tried to try to bond as deeply as we could.

A terminal diagnosis of cancer

Myrna: Now, a lot of people who are given that diagnosis would say I’m gonna make peace because they tell you to put your house in order and make sure you tell everyone you love them. And maybe you should do the things that you have always wanted to do. You think that people do that, like their, bucket lists? Do they do that?

David: I think that’s a rarity. Because you know, we live in denial. And one of the people I spoke to was a doctor, an oncologist at NYU. She told me that no one accepts that they are going to die from, cancer. They always have hope, so very few people put their house in order or do things on their, bucket list. One of the things she told me that really made a lot of sense was, the human brain is not wired to be able to really contemplate in an understanding way our own mortality, it just doesn’t just doesn’t happen.

I think that kind of explains why we don’t ever want to put our house in order and we don’t ever want to do those, bucket list, kinds of things. Because we just don’t think we’re going to die. So the vast majority of people that I spoke to, they did have a fair amount of denial, either from them or the people that they loved. They put off taking care of things. They were abandoned by people that loved them, they self-isolated and didn’t close loops that they probably should have closed.

Cancer patients live in hope

Myrna: So true, that is why suicide is so against the norm, because most of us are wired to preserve our life, and we will go to great lengths to stay alive, even when the quality of our lives is taken away, we want to live. So that is a very distinct, very good information to put out to someone who is reading this, that is either going through, trauma, or they know someone who has been given a terminal diagnosis of, cancer. Make sure that you tell your loved ones that you love them and put your house in order.

David: My book is not all about death and dying from, cancer, because, cancer,  does not always mean death. Even the fear of, cancer, can be unbelievably traumatic for some people, right? Imagine if you received a diagnosis, it was early diagnosis, like a stage one, cancer, or something, and very treatable. But now you got to live the rest of your life thinking in the back of your head, oh, my gosh,

  • Am I allowed to go out in the sun?
  • Should I eat a certain food?
  • Do I need to exercise more?
  • Is this, cancer, going to come back and take me?
  • Do I not have kids because I don’t want to lose them in case my, cancer, is fatal.

Living in fear of cancer

I mean, the, fear of cancer, can be just as powerful as actual, cancer, right? And not all, cancers, in fact  most, cancers, are not a death sentence. So what I wanted to do was to explain in my book is  what are people going through that we might not know? Or what, traumas, have affected them so that they’re not able to navigate this kind of traumatic diagnosis of, cancer.  Because we don’t really know what people are going through.

Myrna: Yea death and taxes are the only thing that are guaranteed. And yet, we don’t want to we don’t want either of them.

One of the things you said, though, is that, went and you interviewed, these 15 cancer survivors even though each one of their stories were different, you found something that was consistent that linked all these stories.  What is the link?

What every cancer patient fears

David: Sure, so there were two things that was consistent. And just to add one more thing to what you just said is it also is not just people that had gone through, cancer, that I spoke to, but also caregivers, doctors. I spoke to people that never had, cancer, themselves, but their lives were centered around, cancer, as a caregiver, or maybe they were with a loved one who went through, cancer.

So, I wanted all those different perspectives, because I think that it’s not the same. If your spouse is diagnosed with, cancer, there still is an unbelievably deep and traumatic set of emotions that go through you, as well, right? You’re not even the one with, cancer, but imagine what you must go through watching your spouse go through, cancer.

But the two things that I found that were quite consistent with every person I spoke to whether they made the book, or they didn’t this is one:

  • No matter how crazy people lives are, nobody thinks their life is that interesting. They’re just living their life
  • Two they feared asking for help. The theme that we’ve been talking about, which is almost everybody not everybody, had a big identification with the thought of, I don’t know if I’m equipped to form really deep connections with the people around me about what I’m going through.
  • They are dealing with the tasks like how do I get to my appointment? How do I get my kids watched while I’m in the chemo chair? How do I navigate time off work? How do I eat healthier?  They don’t want to be a burden, so they have a hard time asking for help. And that was very, very consistent with almost every single person I spoke to.

Myrna: Do you think it’s because people don’t really like to ask for help?

David: That’s definitely a. Yeah,

Patricia’s story: I don’t get colds, I get cancer

There was one story about this woman her name is Patricia and she made the statement I don’t get colds, I get, cancer.  From that statement, I delve into her, mindset, and I am assuming that she’s had a hard life because she made the comment that I don’t get colds, I get cancer, which tells me that, cancer, kept coming back. But, one of the reasons that I want to I want to I want to touch on it, is because I also know when we make statements like this one, then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. So, what can you share about Patricia’s story?

David: Wow, that’s a great insight. So, her story is really fascinating. And one of the things that was hilarious was like the second conversation I had with her she tells me, “My life’s not that interesting.” So,  let me try to explain her story. Her story is pretty fascinating, because I thought it was about the fact that she had, beat cancer, five different times over a 35-year period. But that’s not what her story is about. Near the end of her talking to me, I asked Patricia, I go, Hey, What’s your secret? Like how did you, beat cancer, 5 times?

And she said to me, well, ever since I moved on from x, and I’ll give you point x in a second. She said, every time that I moved on from point x, all I did was I just said to myself,

Every single day, you have to put your feet on the ground, get up out of bed, and go about your day.

Transform Your Mind PTWWNTV
Transform Your Mind PTWWNTV

Now sometimes David, I was able to make my bed and walk away. Other times, I make my bed and lay right back into it. But I wanted to get up and put my feet on the ground and make my bed and go about my day. Oh, wow. Now not knowing her story. If you told me life was get your feet on the ground and make your bed and go about your day, I’d roll my eyes go on, whatever, you know, good for you.

But her story is this so when she’s a teenager she was in a relationship and that the relationship was exceptionally abusive. To the point where she has is forced to cut ties with every person that she knows, including her family friends, not allowed to go out anywhere on her own. He beats her up if he just thinks that she’s having a bad thought. I mean, it’s horrible. Okay, so after four years she learns how to escape by getting another identity and she escapes that abusive relationship.

Shortly after she escapes, she gets diagnosed with, cancer, for the first time. Over a 35-year period she gets diagnosed with, cancer, five different times and five different types of, cancer, very serious. Her story is while beating the first, cancer, she met some someone and he becomes the only person that she had ever met that she could trust and that she could love and felt would love her no matter what.

This man helped her recover from that abusive situation she had escaped from. And he was beside her for her whole life, during which time she was fighting all these different, cancers,  and living her life. This love sustained her through battling her cancers, caring for her dad who died of, cancer.

Everyone has their time in the barrel

She looked at herself one day in the mirror, and she said, hey, don’t walk around, like all burden. Don’t walk around all emotional.

Everybody has their time in the barrel. All you do is just keep getting up, keep putting your foot on the ground, make your bed and go about your day.

And I’m just like, holy cow. She’s had been through all of that and the only solution to her was, everybody’s got a tough life. Everybody has it bad, you could be burdened by it. Or you could not just get your feet on the ground, make your bed and go about your day. I’m like, That’s brilliant. Right. And so, so that’s, that’s Patricia’s story. So, I mean, there’s more way more to her story you have to read the book.

Myrna: Well, you surprised me with that answer. But I get it. When I looked at that statement. I don’t get colds, I get cancer. I thought that was a, defeated mindset. You know, saying I’m always sick. And then you become always sick, like self-fulfilling prophecy. But instead, she’s looking at, cancer, almost like a cold, something that you get through. You get, and you just go on with your life!

Never sick a day in my life except cancer

David: And you know, one of the first things she said to me, she goes, I never been sick a day in my life. I never had a cold; I never had the flu. I have never been sick except for, cancer, and all the other stuff that came with it, I literally have never been sick a day in my life. And she goes, if somebody wrote a story about me, it would be titled, I don’t get colds, I get cancer!

Myrna: What do you want the reader to walk away with after reading your, cancer stories?

David:  Well, first of all, what I want them to know is that each one of the book participants, doctor, patient, loved one, whatever survivor, they chose a, cancer focused charity, or other charity that they wanted the proceeds of the book to go to, so 100% of the proceeds of the book, no matter where it’s sold, or how it sold, it gets divided up between the organizations that they chose. So that’s number one. What I want the reader to know is they’ll be doing some good financially, there’s not a lot of money in books, but 100% of it will go to support their organizations.

But I think what more you know, like that saying, we talked about it earlier, like you never know what people are going through. That’s what I want readers to walk away with. We really have no idea what people are going through.  For example, Patricia finished a master’s in art. She’s an amazing artist and when you were sitting next to her in art class and admiring her work, and she’s admiring yours, you would have no idea what she had gone through.

Conclusion

Myrna: How can readers get their hands on your book? How can they connect with you on social media?

David: Yes, the book is available wherever books are sold. So, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, your local bookstore. Up until a week ago, I couldn’t have said this. But now the audible is out. So, it’s, it’s available as a book, as an e book or as an audio book. In fact, we had 15 different actors each read one of the different stories, so it’s very entertaining, and very inspirational and it’s not very heavy. There’s a lot of inspiration that can come from these stories.

They can connect with me on Facebook or Instagram @cycleoflives or @David Richman or go to my website www.David-Richman.com  And they can learn about the institutions that we’re supporting, and all the other things that are going on around this whole cycle of life’s project.

Can 5G Radiation look Like Coronavirus symptoms?

5G, radiation can mimic the symptoms  of coronavirus. The, coronavirus, comes into your body and replicates. It creates a massive inflammation reaction that your body is trying to fight, and your body fights as long as it can; but as soon as it runs out of defense mechanisms,  like the glutathione is depleted or any other type of defense mechanism set up to fight inflammation, then you’re going to see cell death.

That cell death mounts and then you get pneumonia.  That transforms into  acute respiratory distress syndrome.  Your lungs fill up with fluids, then you can’t exchange anymore oxygen and you die.

Listen to the full interview here:

What is 5G?

5G, electromagnetic, radiation, can cause changes in your cells which mimic a lot of different types of insults, electromagnetic, radiation,  can do things like:

  • create oxidative stress
  • and the oxidative stress creates all of their downstream things you know that’s
  • like DNA damage that’s like mutations
  • triggering pathways for cell death that ultimately could possibly lead to cancer
  • you see premature aging
  • immediately what happens in these environments of, radiation, you will you disrupt cellular processes. Disrupting your cellular metabolism
  • you’re disrupting how your cells make energy
  • you’re disrupting how your cells provide defenses and things like glutathione which is one of your cells chief defense mechanisms. It gets used up.  When your body is under constant assault, and it’s not just from cell phone networks it’s from all kinds of different things we live in a soup of toxic exposure and each one of those different assaults are pulling on the same set of resources.
  • If your cells don’t stay healthy then your tissues aren’t healthy, and when your tissues aren’t healthy, then your organs aren’t healthy, and if your organs aren’t healthy then the human isn’t healthy.

In this episode I interview Dr Joe Nieusma, CEO/Chief Toxicologist at Superior Toxicology & Wellness, an international scientific consulting firm he founded. Dr Nieusma is also the a co-founder for TwinOxide North America. A company working to improve water quality in all aspects of life.

Why is the Government moving ahead with, 5G, regardless of the harmful repercussions?

So why is the government moving forward with, 5G technology, when there’s evidence that it hurts humans?  Well let’s change the paradigm and say, at the turn of the century Henry Ford comes out with the Model T and the government moved forward with making cars even though they knew people would die riding around in cars.

Different technology move forward knowing people are going to die, because it changes the quality of life, and the risk benefit analysis still says more people are going to benefit from this being a thing. than if this wasn’t a thing.

As a toxicologist and regardless of what we’re talking about, could be anything; you can find in the scientific literature published papers that are Pro and that are Con every single topic.  The key is to figure out what the better science is, and what the let’s see, what’s the easiest way to this – separate the wheat from the chaff.  You need to know the good science which is applicable, from the junk science which is published for muddying the waters.

As a toxicologist my one of my toxicology mantras besides

The dose makes the Poison.

Is everything in moderation.  So those are the caveats of the, 5G, discussion.

5G technology, is the fifth generation of communications cellular wireless technology.

Each generation gets a little bit better than the previous generation, and what we’re talking about with wireless, 5G technology, is waves.  Its energy just like a human isn’t really a completely solid form, we are made up of waves and energy it’s just densely packed and it looks solid.  Similarly, 5G, is just waves and although they call it a non-ionizing radiation, well it’s still on the spectrum.

There’s different degrees of activity of these waves, as you move up and down that spectrum of, electromagnetic radiation.  So in some cases there is evidence that there is adverse effects, and in some cases there is evidence that, 5G, is perfectly fine.  So you’re walking the tightrope,  you’re on the top of the fence, and the proof in the pudding is interpretation.

But I will say that some of the things that happen with the wireless technology and that can be 3G, 4G,  5G, but it’s more prevalent at, 5G, apparently the, radiation, can cause changes in your cells.

I think you have just given President Trump a pass here.

What I think is that the guy that’s in charge, regardless of who he is.  It could be Trump it could be Obama, it could be Bush, it could be Clinton, it could be Eisenhower.  All those guys that are in charge and at the high office, is just the winning poster child of the party.  They’re the mouthpiece and they’re only as good as the people that are feeding them information, because nobody can be that up on all of these different things. Trump he’s the fall guy.

I think that , 5G, is coming because they need that type of a network to do the other things that are on the horizon, like the driver-less cars, and all of those other technological advancements that that people want to see happen, that you need the you need the horsepower in the information Superhighway, in order to make that happen.

Is the Coronavirus, 5G Radiation?

I want to jump right into another controversial theory that’s been on the Internet. They’re saying that the, coronavirus, is a result of the, 5G, poisoning.  I was reading an article that said that the, coronavirus, is an evolved mutation from, coronaviruses, that came before such as, MERS, and SARS, which originated from bats.

You mentioned this in our last interview, you said that they’ve been, coronaviruses, before, but it’s the first time I’ve heard about it.  Apparently they’re all called, coronaviruses, which is why this one is labeled, Covid-19, which is a specific one.

The same article I was reading from, Apple News, was saying these viruses always seem to starts in China.  China has reopened its markets and they’re still selling bats and dogs and cats.

Don’t forget Snakes!

Coronaviruses, have been around for a while.  It’s not anything super new, basically, coronaviruses, are a group of viruses that cause disease in mammals. Humans are included in that, so are birds.  They mainly target respiratory issues and gastrointestinal issues, so you’re either going to get breathing difficulties that lead to pneumonia or you’re going to get symptoms like massive diarrhea and dehydration and the complications.

But in humans in particular, there are about seven known strains of, coronavirus, that infect humans and some of these, like four of them cause symptoms like a cold or runny nose and headaches, coughs, sore throat that type of thing.  Some a fever, but they are very rarely fatal.

Mers, Sars, coronavirus

Then there’s three!  MERS, SARS and the new SARS that have varying degrees of lethality.

Those are the ones that get all of the attention in the outbreaks like in 2003 there was the, SARS,  outbreak 10% of the people that got, SARS, ended up dying.  Between 2012 all the way up to 2019, MERS, killed 23 percent of its infected people.  So there’s different types of, coronaviruses, and there’s different levels of fatality involved with each of these viruses.  And then just for comparative sake the, Ebola virus, which  can kill between 50 and 80% of the infected people.

The, viruses, that killed many the outbreaks, burn out faster, because they kill their hosts and they can’t jump to the next person.

The COVID-19 is designed to be very efficient at human to human transmission.  The, coronaviruses, have been found in bats, in snakes, in pigs, and in humans.  They can go from the bats, pigs and snakes and jump to the humans, because the receptor that the virus uses to get inside the cell, called the, ACE 2 receptor, or angiotensin converting enzyme.  That receptor is also found in all of those species.  The bat has the, ACE 2  receptor, the snake has the ACE 3 receptor the pigs have and humans have the,  ACE 2 receptor.

That’s the that’s the highway the virus uses to jump from species to species.  So there is absolute plausibility that the virus, COVID-19, initiated in one of those animals.

Now there’s also some evidence to suggest that, COVID-19, has been manipulated, because some strings of base pairs and nucleotides that are found in that virus that have only been seen in experimental versions of the, coronavirus.  I have the paper that said that and that twelve base pairs that isn’t found naturally that is found in, COVID-19, is in relation to how efficient it gets from human to human and that’s where that’s where you say where did this really come from?

That shines all kinds of light on it.  You look at everything and the best answer that you come up with is well it could have come from animals, or it could have come from a laboratory nobody really knows.

Is, 5G radiation, making the Coronavirus more deadly?

We can talk about that, 5G radiation, that’s attacking your cells and can make fighting the virus harder. 5G radiation,  can also make fighting the, coronavirus, a losing battle, because the presence of, 5G poisoning, means that your cells are trying to draw on exactly the same defense mechanisms that the, coronavirus, would need to fight the virus.  So it’s  like your big brother goes and eats all of your breakfast cereal before you go to the pantry to get it, and you reach for the empty box and you go hungry.

A lot of people eat pork,  Are pigs transferring, coronavirus, as well?

Yes. Remember the, swine flu, lots of pigs just recently died in China because of a, swine flu, that’s a virus.

Then there’s the respiratory illnesses from chickens that can kill an entire chicken house.  The, swine flu, could kill an entire pig farm.

There’s, mad cow disease, and that’s where you get biggest degradation of neuro tissue. They basically have a brain with holes in it.

The, coronavirus, cannot be confused with,5G poisoning,  different set of symptoms. But the consensus is that the cities that are most affected by the, coronavirus, has installed, 5G, and they’re also saying that Wuhan, China was the city that started with, 5G, installations.

How to Protect Yourself from, 5G, Radio Frequency Cell Poisoning?

Dr. Joe if I have a, 5G,  refrigerator in my house that is intelligent enough to look in my fridge and tell how much food I’ve got left and then place order.  And I’m exposed to this, radio frequency cell poisoning,  what are going to be my symptoms?

We are moving forward with developing this infrastructure, with developing these technologies that everybody wants, because we’re all inherently lazy.  But when you’re exposed to a lot of radiation and unfortunately I haven’t read the study, so I don’t know that the quantitative analysis.  Which goes back to the toxicological principle that, the dose makes the poison.  And unfortunately I don’t know the answer.

Let’s move on to my next controversial topic – Coronavirus Vaccines.

Another controversial theory that’s floating around the internet is that the government is making everybody get, coronavirus, because they want to make, coronavirus vaccine,  mandatory and getting the, coronavirus vaccine, is going to be absolutely mandatory for you to travel to different places. I also understand that these, coronavirus vaccines, are going to have some kind of RFI device implanted in them so they can track you.  This RFI chip is going to make the, 5G, technology work better.

That’s the first time I’ve ever this.  Wow tell me more.  I’m interested.

Apparently,  they’re not hiding this RFI implant. They are saying that they want to know who has the, coronavirus vaccine.

This would be akin to putting a locator chip in your pet where you can scan the pet and you can tell the pet’s information. There’s information attached to it.  But then you could scan somebody and you would know whether or not they got the, coronavirus vaccine,  that’s very interesting.

RFID is radio frequency identification data or tag.  But wow that’s very intrusive government activity.  I would be absolutely floored if that move forward without people objecting.

There’s multiple companies working on a, coronavirus vaccine, and the challenge is the pace at which the protein coat on the virus mutates.  The, coronavirus,  has an outer protein coat that protects the genetic material which is the RNA on the inside of that protein coat.  So the vaccine usually targets some aspect of that protein that’s stable from mutation.  With the, coronavirus, they are seeing such rapid mutations, that it’s been difficult to get that get that vaccine to grab hold of a stable target.  That’s why there isn’t a, coronavirus vaccine, yet.

We all use Facebook and Messenger to keep in touch, but the problem with them is that those apps are too heavy. Sooner or earlier you may have a problem with no free space available for photos or videos on your smartphone, just because the Facebook app ate your space. But there is a great alternative for them called Maki. Maki is a single app with both Facebook and Messenger which is more than 10 times smaller! And that’s not all: she can also leave you without Facebook ads in a news feed, protect your eyes at night with dark mode for comfortable usage at night and more.

With,  5G, EMF – electromagnetic fields,  there’s a whole basis of literature that talks about the Crystals.  Crystals are supposed to protect you from EMF radiation.

You can Google, EMF protective devices, and there’s all kinds of little things you can buy that that may or may not work, it depends on what you believe.

How to Use CBD Oil as a Wellness Product

CBD, In the form of oils, pills, pills, balms, are wellness products.  Federal advisers voted  to recommend approval of the first prescription cannabidiol, CBD,  medicine — to treat rare and severe forms of epilepsy.

The reason, CBD, works is our bodies have what is called an endocannabinoid system,  so this can basically be viewed as a lock-and-key system where we have receptors in our bodies that then attach to external receptors.

This system is responsible for contributing to our overall sleep and wake cycle, our mood, our appetite and can really be viewed as an important component in reaching homeostasis, of reaching a balance point in our body. CBD, from the cannabidiol plant helps us reach homeostasis.

Joseph – I looked at, cannabis, and, CBD pills, and I noticed that when I used it in a very intentional way, I saw the medicinal benefits. I saw myself being able to calm down, to be able to work on my anxiety.  I also saw myself be able to be a lot more creative and when I started to discover that those were the truths underlying, marijuana.

Diriving, CBD, from, Cannabis

As the years progressed I started diving a lot more into what, cannabis, really was and what all the cannabinoids within the plant were and that’s where, CBD, CBD Oil, and CBD pills, became a focus.  I said okay well there’s this cannabinoid  and we’ll dive deep into this; but this cannabinoid is non intoxicating unlike THC and has a wide array of medicinal benefits.

I think that’s a very important statement for right now and for the, cannabis, industry and the path that I ended up taking.

What is the difference between, CBD Oil, and, marijuana?

As a respected health and fitness professional, I started to use, cannabis, to help me recover.  It also helped me sleep, it helps me calm down.  I utilized my relationships with other health professionals and  put the right information out there into this world, to educate from the standpoint of “Hey I am someone focused on health and fitness and general wellness and I use cannabinoids or, cannabis.”

That is how Cured Nutrition started.  Ordering up, CBD, in the form of, CBD oils, and, CBD pills, and different extracts and creating products at my house. Sending them to community members and saying Hey give this a try. Tell me if it helps you  sleep, or calm down.  I had hand after hand raised. This gave me the data I needed to expand manufacture of, CBD pills, CBD oil, and other, CBD, products.

Starting a, Cannabis, Business

Not to say it hasn’t been a difficult process because when we speak about, cannabis,  and we speak about, medical, marijuana, it’s not the typical route of starting a business getting a bank account.  Certain things that would be viewed as very easy when starting a business is different when you’re in the, cannabis, space.  So it’s been quite the roller coaster; but I’m extremely thankful for all the experiences we’ve had as a company.

Myrna – I know, I live in Fort Myers, Florida and in the last election we voted on medical, Marijuana, for whatever reasons it didn’t get enough votes; but sooner or later it will pass. Medical, marijuana, is already legal in some other places like you said Colorado.

What is, CBD, CBD oil, and CBD pills?

CBD, is a cannabinoid and, CBD, stands for is cannabidiol.  Cannabidiol is one cannabinoid out of over now eighty cannabinoids that have been identified in the, cannabis, plant.  Other widely known cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol which is THC.

THC is the cannabinoid that is actually intoxicating; but now when we take a step back and we say okay so there’s over 80 cannabinoids in the, cannabis, plant.  What we are learning now is we’ve recognized that all of these cannabinoids have therapeutic benefits and when you combine them certain cannabinoids have certain effects for certain areas.

Now, CBD, CBD oil, and CBD pills, specifically has become so popular because you can actually get, CBD, without any THC in the product.

There’s a difference between a THC free product and a product that we call full-spectrum.  If the product is called full-spectrum, it means it has all of those cannabinoids that I just discussed found in the product; but at very low concentrations.

Why, CBD, is being mass produced

The reason that, CBD, CBD oil, and, CBD pills, are being mass-produced right now is because the abundance of that cannabinoid.  CBD, in the, cannabis, plant is really high and it’s a lot easier to extract from the plant than some of the other minor cannabinoids that would live in that other 80 plus cannabinoids.

If we said, cannabis, and I was looking at a tree a tree diagram, a top-down diagram. I would say, cannabis, live at the top and then below, cannabis, which is where we identify where which plant we’re extracting it from would live hemp and, marijuana, hemp and, marijuana, are both of the genus, cannabis.

They are both, cannabis, but the way that they are differentiated is that the hemp plant is identified as having less than 0.3 percent THC; so it’s very low in what we would call the intoxicating cannabinoid.

What is Hemp, CBD?

Hemp, CBD,  (Cannabis sativa L.) is a plant grown in the northern hemisphere, best known for its thin, somewhat spiky, green leaves (usually around seven that fan out around the end of each stem). It takes approximately three to four months to mature before harvesting. And it is a dioecious plant, which is a decidedly nerdy way of saying that there are both male and female hemp plants. And they need each other for the female to set seed.

Hemp, CBD,  has a wide variety of uses. You can use the whole plant, including the fiber (from its stems), protein (from its seeds), and oils and smokable portions (from the leaves and flowers). Smokable hemp is a new addition to the, CBD, industry, as the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant are rich in non-psychoactive cannabidiol, a compound which has many therapeutic properties.

Hemp, CBD,  seeds are small with a slightly sweet and nutty flavor and are technically nuts. While the terms are often used interchangeably, hemp “hearts” are hemp seeds that have had their shell removed, so they’re easier to consume. Hemp hearts are round and have a whitish-green hue with a black center.

Hemp, CBD,  is environmentally friendly, too. It grows in a variety of climates and types of soil, which is possible because of its hardiness. Hemp is resistant to drought and damage from UV rays, as well as most pests. It’s happy to grow tightly packed together, which allows it to shade out and out compete most weeds.

That means there’s no point in using chemical pesticides on most hemp crops. It’s also a natural substitute for cotton and wood fiber, both of which take a heavy toll on the environment. Hemp has a low lignin content, which allows it to be pulped using fewer chemicals than wood. And a fully mature hemp plant may contain half of its dry weight in seed, which is an impressively high yield.

Hemp, CBD,  as we as we know and have can see has actually been used for a wide array of purposes whether it be, clothing, biofuel actually food, we’ve all seen hemp seed oil or hemp hearts.  It has so many different purposes but now we’ve actually bred hemp to have high concentrations of, CBD oil, and very low concentrations of THC.

The hemp plant looks very similar to the, medical marijuana, plant to be able to extract the cannabinoids from it,  so then when we look at a, cannabis, plant we would see a plant that’s shorter and has more flowers which are considered the buds.  That’s where all the cannabinoids are coming from.

Is, Marijuana, in,  CBD?

When you look at the, marijuana, plant, it is basically identified by having greater than 0.3% THC.

It is true that we are extracting, CBD, and, CBD oil, from the, marijuana, Hemp plant and other cannabinoids from the, marijuana, plant.  That’s what’s going into edibles that’s what’s going in topical,  that’s what’s potentially going into vaporizers but it’s regulated and can only be sold in a medical dispensary.

Are, CBD Pills, and, CBD Oils, a Wellness Product? What are the benefits?

Absolutely, CBD, CBD pills, and, CBD oils, are all wellness products.  The reason being is our bodies as humans, we have what is called an endocannabinoid system,  so this can basically be viewed as a lock-and-key system where we have receptors in our bodies that then attach to external receptors.

This system is actually responsible for contributing to our overall sleep and wake cycle, our mood, our appetite and can really be viewed as an important component in reaching homeostasis, of reaching a balance point in our body.  From a general health and wellness perspective,  a lot of people are starting to be see cannabinoids as a wellness product.  CBD pills, specifically are what would be called an adaptogen.

It can be used to reduce the body’s stress response and come back to a place of calm.

CBD oil, has properties that are similar to anti-inflammatories, so that being the case anything that you really can talk about that might be caused from Inflammation.

How can we incorporate, CBD, into a healthy lifestyle?

We can incorporate, CBD pills, into our lifestyle and take them like we take our vitamins every day. The most convenient way is to use what we call a sublingual dropper or a tincture.  It comes in a bottle that has a dropper, you shake it up you take the dropper and fill it up with, CBD oil, you put it underneath your tongue and then you hold it for 30 to 60 seconds.  Within 10 to 15 maybe 20 minutes, you will feel the calming effects.

But now an even more concentrated way would be to use it in a capsule form called, CBD pills. If you take, CBD, in a capsule, CBD pills, you can actually get a lot higher concentration.  It goes through your stomach, it’s processed and is delivered directly into your bloodstream.

We also have topical.  You also have to ensure when you’re using a topical that it has the correct ingredients to also help with the absorption, so I would say always start with a tincture, then progress to the capsule, CBD pills,  and then use the topical for spot treatment.
