Matthew Perry's struggles with Childhood Trauma

I watched the Matthew Perry, Chandler Bing on Friends documentary and something he said in one of the interviews in the documentary stayed with me. I would wake up thinking about, about it. It was on my mind constantly. He said that he was making a million dollars a week and he was still suffering. So, money was not the issue.
The joy of being on Friends only lasted for about eight months and then he was suffering again. That series lasted for 10 years. He was only happy for the first eight months. It’s like when you get a new car. You are only happy for a little bit.
Or this nice new house or this nice new man or this nice new marriage. If you are suffering internally, your pain is going to find a way to come back because the newness of whatever you got is going to wear off.
Matthew shared in his book a story of his parents divorced when he was young, he was 9 months old. His mom was living in Canada, Ottawa and his dad was living in Los Angeles. And at five years old, think about it, five years old, they decided to put him on a plane alone to visit his dad.
The airline put a sign around his neck, unaccompanied minor. That was the beginning of his abandonment issues and the feeling of being alone all his life.  Unfortunately, after 30 years of therapy, he was not able to rewire his trauma. He died of a drug overdose.
